Wow, thanks for posting this up. I never use valet's anyway....if need be, I'll throw the guy 10 bucks and ask if he doesn't mind that I park it myself (out of the way of course)...usually works all the time. Would never let a valet touch my car...too many horror stories.

I live in a neighborhood with lots of restaurants. Those azhul valets occupied (probably illegally) a bank parking lot after the bank closed in the evening.
I pulled into the parking lot and used the ATM, and those valets had the gall to ask me to leave so as not to be in their way???
Sure I did leave... after I conducted my businss and really took my time pulling out of the lot, blocking a bunch of them and no doubt pissing off their customers.

Not everything is what it seems or what the media shows us, so just because you saw a guy getting into the car doesnt mean it was used as a shuttle. It is very possible that they were going to park the car, and the other guy jumped in because he had to pick up a car to bring back to the front ? Afterall thats what valet does, and if they had to bring back 2 cars - that would explain it. What do you expect? the guy should walk to the lot when there is another valet guy taking a car to the lot?

Its a rip-off and the business they serve allow it... it would stop if people didnt patronize those business...but, they allow it prob cause they get a kick-back and there are too many people in LA for these thiefs to care one way or the other. I parked at this building in LA a few months ago and chose to park myself instead of valet. But, when I wanted to use the restroom in the parking structure on my way back/when leaving ... I had to pay a parking attendant at the restroom door. I'm never going to that place again.

I never valet. I'd rather walk 7 blocks to my destination then let some guy who doesn't really give a damn drive my car off.

I valeted 5 years throughout college at a very swanky account. Sick gig, and I got to drive amazing cars everyday. That said, I never valet my own car. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a nice, or modded car.

I have four good friends who valet (or manage valets) at some nice places in Palm Beach County, and they all tell me exactly the same thing. They're always talking about "taking a lap around the test track" which means taking the long way 'round to the lot so they can open them up.

They're pretty decent kids, but they also tell me stories about some of the guys they work with that have stolen things, and done damage to vehicles.

About a year ago one of the new guys found a Glock under the seat of a car, and swiped it while he was parking the car. The owner turned out to be a US Marshal who realized he'd left it there about 10 minutes after he sat down to eat, and came back to secure it. He walked out to the car and found it missing, and called the local Police. No one fessed up, but later on they found the missing gun in the valet stand.
