LOUD NOISES!!!!

When the Tesla Roadster was announced, it was supposed to come with a manual transmission. I guess they couldn't make it work or it just didn't make sense.

From my point of view, it doesn't hurt to have all of these electric cars around. It will greatly reduce carbon emissions when most people won't be polluting into the air. It will be interesting though when the "real" car guys are getting left in the dust at every stop light by the instant electric torque, how many will switch over.

Gas-powered cars will not go away any time soon though. There's still too much money in it.

I want the smell of un-burnt fuel out my catless exhaust, I want flames out the exhaust pipes, I want induction noise, I want that snap in the back from a gear shift, I want burbles and farts on over run and down shifts.

Electric cars SUCK!

Some of you are looking at Ecars all wrong. I get to track my M more because I save so much money driving my electric beater.

You ever seen how batteries are made? Lot more electric cars than people that run cat less exhaust. How do you think we generate power to charge your car everyday?

Hey I'm all for regulating the coal power plants too so that they reduce the pollutants they put into the air.

Besides, there's a difference in not being able to cut out all pollutants we produce and rejoicing in the smell of unburnt gas for what, loud sounds and 3 HP?

I will agree with you though that it's not clear cut that electric vehicles are actually better for the environment.

Well... 14% of Colorado's energy is current from wind. In three years it will be 30%... and so forth. And that's just wind. There are also solar and hydrodams.

An example of the crappy drivers who drive Tesla. You'll find this a lot with Tesla drivers. They want AutoPilot to work and have no real interest in actually DRIVING the car, but they love to quote 0-60 times and say how sporty the car is... but don't want to actually drive the car. A guy at work was saying how he really likes the feature that hold the brakes at stop lights if you press hard on the brake pedal, so he doesn't have to keep your foot on the brake pedal... because you know, that's too much work.

An electric car just became the fastest production car around the Ring.

Perhaps it did, and kudos to the builder. However lap times, particularly around the 'Ring, are hardly the only metric by which an enthusiasts' car is measured. We buy our cars for fun more than for anything else. This is why there has not been a mass exit by e9X M3 owners to jump to the new M3/M4, even though they are faster. A new Lincoln Continental is going to be faster around any circuit than a 1960s era Lotus Elan Sprint, but I cannot imagine that any of us would not pick the Lotus for a Sunday afternoon drive.

Absolutely zero interest in them. For me, it's the whole experience. I get pure enjoyment out of the sounds from the v8. The "pop" when I up-shift, the throttle blip on down-shifts, and did I mention going under tunnels/bridges? I don't care that they have instant torque and are faster. I couldn't get into fast and silent. But hey, that's just me...

I have an i3 as a commuter and short road trip car (up to 200 miles) and it has its merits. I find it especially useful running errands on short trips. No worries about parking or ground clearance, it's quiet and calm, is very quick 0-30 and it's cheap. All of those things remove 95% of the stress and annoyance out of using my M3 for that sort of use. For those complaining about the lack of sound - you are missing the point. At least the point that I see the car serving. It's a commuter, not a sports car, I love that it's quiet. Now, in the context of completely eliminating my "fun" car for electric- that's a different story.

I agree, but I'll go one step further: I have no interest in the hybrid powerstrains of the P1 style cars.

Torque fill sounds real nice, but in exchange for 500lb of batteries and engines? No thanks.

I am quite sure the P1 would have been faster without all the electric garbage on board. The NA Lambo just destroyed the P1's laptime without electric gizmos or turbos and at 1/4 of the cost.

People at work know I'm into cars and try to talk to me about Teslas. I have even less interest than diesels which I thought was impossible. They are the opposite of an enthusiast vehicle.

The Radical SR8LM undercut the Lambo's time by over 4 seconds....and it's powered by a V8.

This is one more point people keep bringing up when talking about Tesla - self driving capability. Let me say this: I will never ever trust a self driving machine and put myself or my family and friends at risk. I don't give a damn if it has the most sophisticated safety features, it's still a damn machine and I won't trust it 100%. I have seen too many crazy people on the road which is one reason good enough to not own a self driving car.

Currently own a Fiat 500E and I surprisingly found it enjoyable for daily commuting purposes. Wouldn't give up my M3 for an electric vehicle, because I feel like it's two different classes. One being a sports car, other economical commuters.

Obviously I also understand the Telsa does have the performance aspect to it. But like stated before it lacks the character and feel of a true sports car.

right on point. my smart electric is fun. not m3 fun, it is go kart fun. tight turn radius fun.

i would equate a tesla to a loaded bmw 550xi heavy, luxurious, and fast, but don't take it to the track.

Totally agree with you on e-cars being great for commuter work, but there's a TON of people on Tesla forums saying how it's a sports car too, which is annoying.

For California people serviced by Edison and have an electric car... you can get up to $450 back. Of course Edison doesn't want anyone to know about this!!

Good to know.

So you're saying even after my level 2 charger rebate + $2500 state rebate + $7500 fed rebate I can still get this rebate with my Chevy Spark EV?

I'm gonna have to apply... the $450 ev rebate can be used towards more M3 mods
