Test Pipe Installer - Bay Area

Read the DIYs and just looking for someone whos installed these in the Bay Area. I know it is very straight forward, but I have no lift/saw.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion... Ive been trying Aleks all week. Got a hold of him today and it looks like he is booked for a while. Clearly, Im impatient.

I purchased a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade from home depot for $50, and then did the install in my driveway with two jack stands and a jack. it's not hard, and the saw cut through the stock x pipe in under 10 seconds. make sure you get a plug in saw, the battery operated ones aren't strong enough. Also make sure you have an o2 sensor socket.

have a friend help lower and raise the x-pipe and you should be able to accomplish the job pretty easily, all the bolts are visible and easy to get to.

Kerrit - Thanks a mil! I just dont want to cut through the floor board..lol I was curious if people take out the whole exhaust and do the mod, or just cut them out.

you can do it on your driveway, definitely drop the exhaust.

However, it sounds like you don't want to do that...you can try just a local exhaust shop. It is fairly straight forward and people on here have gone that route.

You guys have motivated me. Of course a few more questions for you:

1 - are the jack stand points on the car pretty straight forward? anyone have a pic?

2 - when you guys say to drop the exhaust, are you saying remove the brace and take off of the hangers and unbolt the flanges to the exhaust headers?

If you end up taking it to a shop, take it to Performance Technic in Dublin.

Well - I gave it a shot. Noticed a bracket right where the clamp would be, that I wasnt anticipating. It secures the pipe, right after the cat, but the ring that goes around the exhaust is not wide enough for the clamp. I dont see an immediate work around.

Any hints on what to do with the bracket that goes pretty much right where the cut would be? If the bracket is important to prevent rattling, what do i do with it after installing the midpipes, since the clamp will be right there.

You don't use it anymore. It's a support that goes to the trans but eliminating the cats makes the pipe much lighter and you don't reuse this bracket.

Well, put the car on the lift today. Took my time, had a buddy help, and thought i was all good. Started it up and its clearly leaking from both clamps. So I give in to the fact that i suck, and will be taking it to a shop to weld it.

At least I tried, right?
