HaHa! I really should, but I may come out of retirement in a few times per year just to keep my skills up! You don't need anymore toys! You have already surpassed me in the short time you have been tracking. Have fun modding and tracking with the Mrs.

Just curious... you can get a Contour ROAM (not the ROAM2) for $100 on Amazon. Seems like it's good enough for what I want to do.
Contour HD 1080p. Yes, suction cup.

The only thing is, audio-wise, all it picks up at that location is wind noise. I'm thinking about opening up the clam shell and soldering in external mic wire, and run/tape the mic to the front or back to pickup some useful engine or exhaust audio.

Cool thanks! Yeah, I don't think there is any way to avoid wind noise once it's mounted there. I just bought a Contour ROAM from Amazon. Got the camera and waterproof kit (I wanted to use it for surfing too) for $115. I got the Moto mount kit as well. It has all sorts of different mounts (suction cup, surface, etc.).

The ROAM seems like it's good enough for what I want to do. Basic HD video with easy on and off.

I see that some of the others have built in GPS. I assume that to do overlays most people would use a datalogger too though. Not sure if the GPS is worth it.

For those with an external mic near the exhaust and the camera mounted on a cruisecam or similar, what mic are you using?

FYI the gopro charges on USB and will charge off of the USB in my center console on my '08 e92 m3. Alternatively, you can get a DC USB charger for about $2.

I use the same mic on my GoPro. The only downside is having to use a battery with the mic. Not sure how long it lasts and there is no visible LED indicator to tell you when the battery has run out.

I had the same concern, so I went to RadioShack and picked up a couple extra batteries. No idea how long it actually lasts, but I left it on one day by mistake and still running strong.

I buy a 10-pack for $10 for the same mic, 1 batt per event. Probably a complete overkill but I'd rather waste a battery rather than come home and find out there's no audio.
