Oregon peeps - plain OSP cars near Salem

I drive to Salem and Eugene quite a bit from Portland. Last trip saw two unmarked cars (assume OSP, but could be Salem PD) with people pulled over on I-5 near Salem. A new white Mustang, and a red Ford Escape! The Mustang doesn't surprise me, but an Escape? I've seen a blue Dodge pickup like this before. Be careful out there!

I frequently see both those cars, Mustang belongs to Marion County Sheriffs. I was cruising on I-5 SB going 2 over in the middle lane while multiple cars were passing me when I spotted a white Mustang flying up from behind. Decided I would get over a little earlier than planned (semi-truck ahead) to bring this guy's speed down about 60 MPH. Noticed it was a Sheriff when he nearly ran into my bumper, pretty sure he was going to sneak up on a SUV that blew by me. Never turned his lights on, but he was visibly pissed and took the next exit.

I got fooled by a plain white F150 on 26WB about 15 miles from Cannon Beach last summer, have to be extra careful these days (although he did let me slide with a warning since he didn't have an exact speed, a very courteous office).

I don't like the trend. I drive very alertly and am judicious in use of extreme excess speed (20 or more over). When you can't spot the spotters it takes much of the fun of the "game" away.

All of this nonsense makes me really think it is time to invest in a LIDAR jammer. You never know when that car parked innocently on the side of the freeway is going to be shooting LIDAR and once the V1 goes off it is too late.

I haven't seen any unmarked cars doing that. Typically they are in traffic where they are even more dangerous.

Stealth update

Coming back to LO from Eugene Friday, saw 2 more unmarked cop vehicles with people pulled over: 1) Late model dark blue Ford pickup with matching canopy; 2) Late model silver Chevy Suburban (Tahoe XL?). I suspect these are Marion County Sherrif vehicles, not OSP. Both had a full complement of hidden red/blue lights and no visible antennas. They're getting sneakier all the time.

I-5 enforcement

I-5 NB OSP parked behind the overpass gunning cars from the rear just north of MP 219 yesterday morning. Don't see them using that tactic much.

Today, full-size Chevy pickup in OSP color but only ID on the doors had someone pulled over in Salem. Marion County Sheriff motorcycle cop had another. Salem is the worst between Portland and Eugene. I still can't go less than 70 in a 60 there, though! Of course, I feel more stealth in a rental!

This thing is turning to be like a Need For Speed Hot Pursuit game. What's next? Cops in Veyrons?

They use lidar, radar & pacing. I've also heard, but not experienced, that they have a plane back in the air after several years. I haven't used my detector for a long time, except when going to eastern Oregon or Washington. It's of limited use without lidar jamming.
