Photo Request: 2010 or eariler E9X M3 Oil Cooler through the pass side lower bumper
Question:
Is there supposed to be a baffle covering half of the auxillary oil cooler on the US Passenger side? I had an '08, E90 M3 which in my memory did NOT have one. This is my 2011.5 and obviously half of the cooler is baffled off. I'm questioning my memory on this one... But I did not remember this on the earlier car. Thanks!

I've noticed this too.
I think all LCI m3's have it half visible and 08's and 09's do not? Mine isnt visible from the front but all 11's I've seen are visible from afar |

In the winter, it's clever.
On a track in the summer, it's stifling.

I know it's not in your year range, but my 2012 has it blocked.

I speculated that the early cars DID NOT have it and the later ones do, but this does not seem to be completely consistent.
For the summer, I want it removed!

My '08 6MT has the baffle. Based on realoem diagrams I think the passenger side intake is for transmission oil, not engine oil. The engine oil cooler is a longer, thinner piece front and center in the main lower grille opening. Unless the car has two engine oil coolers, but I doubt it.
If that's the case, I wonder if 6MT cars are the only ones with baffles because the 6speed doesn't generate enough heat to warrant fully exposing the cooling vanes, but the same cooler was used for both transmissions to reduce unique part numbers?

After all this unofficial speculation I may be digging deeper.
