Exclamation M3 DTM car on display at Essen Motor Show…

BMW unveiled their new M3 DTM racer (with paint and sponsor colors!) to the public at the Essen Motor Show (Essen Germany) this past weekend. The show goes until December 4th, 2011. IF you are a “car nut” (aren’t we all!) you ought to go if you are in the area. Here are some pics of the new M3 DTM car and its rivals (past and future). BMW also had a nice display of their Performance Parts lineup.

The M3 DTM looks very cool but Audi's wide body aero conversion looks impressive for possible downforce. It should be another great DTM season.

Sick roofline on the E92. Not sure about how I feel regarding the blacked out lights but I'll hold my judgement until I see it racing. I think it would look great with LED angel eyes like the F10/E92 LCI.

Oh and that E30 would be absolute perfection if it had the gold/polished lip BBS RS wheels the one I saw had. Nothing like an Alpine E30 on gold BBSs (although I'm a bit biased )

Thanks for posting. I wonder how big an advantage there is to mounting the rear spoiler from the top as opposed to the bottom. Looks like all the manufacturers are taking this approach.

The M3 DTM looks nice but I have to say the rear fender flares look tacky. Couldn't they have flared them in a bit more? Looks like just a big piece of tubing attached to the side of the car.

It's the same wing on all cars. These cars are 70% (or so) the same cars. There are many parts to be used, as the monocoque and the wing. Marquardt said, there are all the parts of a stock M3 in that DTM racer. That's a really bad joke...

Not a single component from the street M3 is used in these cars.
They are tube-chassis and part of the reason the racing is so fast.
But the model resemblance is just that ... Body-panels made to look like a street car.
Beautiful race cars, but not M3s
If u wanna see real M3s racing, tune in to Continental Challenge, that's about the only racing that uses modified street cars... Everything else is tube-chassis, engineering prowess.

That's what I wanted to say with bad joke. Marquardt only said so in the interview. What I meant was that the "different" cars looking like Audi, BMW and Mercedes are 70% equal.

I personally do not like the DTM cars of today. They are no touring cars, they are single-seaters crossed with touring cars. I hope, some day there will be stock-based M3s racing against RS5 and C63 AMG. Real touring cars. But somehow I don't believe to see it anymore.
