S6 launch Vs LC
This is not going to be news to most people here but I wanted to post this up just in case there are people out their that like me haven't actually tried a hard take off in DCT S6 mode.
I drive my M3 pretty hard and spend 95% of the time using S5..... most of the time when I get the chance to floor it away from a stop light I will do just that and in S5 the car just takes off with minimal fuss after the noisy but controlled clutch drop. I've driven in S6 a bit on the move but didn't find the shifts noticably more violent than in S5 so it never occured to me that a standing start in S6 would be that different either! Wrong!!!! I tried a foot to the floor standing start in S6 today and boy was it violent.... if anything it was more violent than when using the full on launch control. So anyone that hasn't tried a full bore S6 start should find the nearest safe bit of road and try it!

Well DCT is off in S6, hence the "violent" feel.
But I have tested both and I say LC is much better, with S6 there is way too much wheel spin and it's not controlled, LC is beautiful. |

In S6 and floor it, I just get spin from first and second into third. Makes for a great burnout, but no record setting 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. In fact, you need to shift to 2nd almost right away to avoid rev limiter. Fun, but not if you are looking for a fast get away........Steve

Did you make sure your foot is off to the brake? If you step on the brake, LC will not work.

Mickey Thompson makes a P265/40R18 ET Street Radial
Now I just need someone to mount these on a set of 18" factory wheels, head down to the local drag strip, put in S6 mode, and stomp on the gas! Please report your results back to me..

How exactly do I get to S6 mode? Simply shut off DSC and push the selection mode button to the right one more time to go from S5 to S6? Will the display in between the speedo and tach show a sixth bar?

Okay. I shut off DSC. I am in S5. I push the selector up one more...and I do NOT get a sixth bar to show. What is the problem? Do I have to be sitting still when I make this selection or can I be driving and change to S6 on the fly?
