I wasn't planning on masking up anything since I assumed there wouldn't be TOO much driving during this clinic, but given that there is going to be 4 laps I'm really wishing I had some tape

BTW, is the classroom portion suitable for an 11 year old with a short attention span?

Well I had a friend help me out and we kept taking breaks cause we were messing around. It took a good hour or so. It could've been done alot sooner but it was actually quite tiring haha.

Ya I wasn't planning on masking it up either but my friend who used to drift at El Toro regularly told me it is pretty rocky there. I'm sure its not going to be that bad since we are only going to do about 4 laps but we just had free time so we decided to wrap it up.

The 30-40 min. seminar was very basic, reviewing simple principles. However, the instructors are pretty knowledgeable with professional racing experience so you can get some specific info RE: your vehicle not covered in the presentation during the question and answer period.

The slalom station and road course were my favorite. Since some of the folks out there are novices, you may want to allow some extra spacing, allowing the person in front of you to advance up a bit so they don't get in your way.

There are sections of the road course where the asphalt is spalling a bit so some painter's tape wouldn't hurt if you don't have a clear bra. I may be helping fix these delapidated sections soon enough...

All in all, the time was short, but packed with fun. Where else can you go this close to home and push your car to the limit safely and legally? I had a blast and will be signing up for the road course "membership".

Nice cars abounded, peppered in with a few mustangs and the like, a Ferrari F430, a few Lotus Esprit turbos, Lambos, Bucky Lasek was there with his crazy P-car, a few M3's, my buddy was running the crap out of his X5M and whoever was driving that E38 7 was a mad man with some serious skills, I enjoyed watching him work that car like no other.

It was a pleasure meeting up with fellow forum members Shaunt and SupremeDTM. Your cars represented well. Hope you guys had as much fun as I did. Sorry I couldn't stay long to catch up afterwards, we got an emergency call right after the event! We'll see you soon.

Dude, you didn't mask the part that usually take the most beating... and cost the most next to the headlights.
You may want to try some clear shelving paper next time. It's much thicker, goes on it larger sheets and comes off clean too. It's really easy if you have 2 people to apply it. It's also considerably cheaper.

What's this membership thing about?

As the development of the "Great Park" slowly continues, Lennar and the OCGPC will likely be extending the lease on the runway to OCRC vis a vis AMCI. This means for potentially another 5-8 years we will have a "track" in Orange County.

As I understand it, OCRC put this feebie on to promote their 'advanced' instruction courses, incl. trailbraking, slide recovery, etc... which, once purchased and completed, "certifies" you for "anytime" access to the track.

If they are amenable to it, I'm going to install a slurry seal or fine-lift paving in a couple of areas to improve the road course for them in exchange for some sort of offset in fees...we'll see though.

So you're paying for the "anytime" access? Or did you sign up for the advanced classes?

I'm guessing he means that if you complete the advanced courses you can use the track during future sessions for free.

I want to start off by saying this was a great event! It was nice seeing you all and I hope you all had a good time as I did. It was also nice meeting some new people (Ken, Dave) there but the best part of it all was the driving! The 2 exercises were lots of fun, especially the slalom course. In the end, we did get to drive on their race track and even though there was a douche vette passing everyone, it was a blast! I heard this event may be happening again in the future and I would definitely attend a 2nd time.

As davedave mentioned above, they want some $ for the 2-day advanced instruction, they won't allow folks access to the road course without completing this. Once completed, and for an extra chunk of cash, you then can run the road course at will.

The pure enjoyment of running the car at the limit convinced me- I want in.

nice seeing u steve, i sign up for March event. Great event, but kinda expensive. I like this track coz you can't really hit any wall or anything can do some serious damage to the car. From what i heard, you can run your car whole day.

Great to meet fellow forum members Steven and Dave, along with a few other M enthusiasts. I agree it was a good time, and would love to do it again.

Haven't signed up for the March event yet, but there is still time I suppose. I'm planning to do a BMWCCA AutoX in San Diego in Feb so I'm just not sure how much time I'll have to do the OCRC one in March.

Hope they do one of these free ones again soon.

I was there on Saturday and it was pretty damn fun.

Someone was there in a JB E92 M3 with Volks and damn, that car sounded amazing.
*edit* I just saw that it was Dave. man, your car was awesome.

It was fun, but there were a few really bad drivers there that were pretty annoying.
