PROBLEMS!!!!

How many times doe's the car have to go in for the same issue before BMW considers it a Lemon?
My check engine light is on again for the 3rd times & iDrive says something about emissions.
Any experience or input would be appreciated.

Hmmm....just keep documenting the issues... if you do intend to pursue the lemon law

How many times has it been to the dealer? What did they say it was before? What octane gas do you use?

I was once embarrased by taking my Z3 into the BMW dealership when the check-engine light repeatedly went on -- only to discover that it was happening because the gas cap wasn't making a proper seal (I wasn't screwing it on tight enough).
Actually a common issue with BMW's!

I was told that after the third time taking it in for the same problem, that lemon law can be done...but don't quote me on that cause i don't know if thats official.

It's been in to Edmonton BMW twice for the "increased emissions" problem & once for oil leaking from a bad o-ring on the tranny filler plug.

The guys at Edmonton BMW have been great thus far. I'm sure that they're nearly as frustrated as I am.

I'll be making a call today to get the car in for service again.....

If the problem persists I recommend you contact BMW North America. The first e46s that came out were having engine failures. BMW came up with a lot of different "causes", until they finally made good on the problem.

Like PencilGeek said -- make sure your gas cap is on tight. You must turn it until it clicks. The car will give you a check engine light when this happens. I know, it happened to me on my E46 M3, but I had remembered reading about this online so it was no big problem. If it gives you problems after this I don't know what to tell you other than to check with the service department.

Good luck.

In regards to the gas cap, if it were not tight an icon of a gas cap would come on the display between the speedo & tach.

Thanks anyway though.
