Euro Bumper Installed

After a painfully long and troublesome delivery of the bumper, I finally got it all together! Rennspec was the vendor of choice for the bumper cover and it came factory painted and nicely packaged in a big box with lots of bubble wrap. No damage at all and paint finish is flawless. Perfect color match to my 7 month old '08 SSII E90. I also put in the matte black grilles. Installation was fairly easy with no major issues. It took about 3 hours to complete the job in my garage. Only thing to watch out for is the removal of the two screws that connect the bumper to the fenders. These are tough to get at and you have to bend down the wheel liner to get to them. It all goes back together nicely with no evidence of tampering.

Thanks to Simon and Gary at Rennspec who go through a tremendous amount coordinating to get this piece from Germany. Although we had some logistics issues, they stood behind their committment and delivered.

but why? i will never understand why spend $2000 on that when you can have it removed and painted for $500 or even less. Boggles my mind!

some people would just prefer the "authenticity" factor... personally, i just molded mine for a much less price cause i just don't have $2k to spend on a bumper.

It's factory painted. No body shop can ever replicate what robots can do.

Ummm, I am not sure how true that is but the body shop that my dealer use always match paint to perfection. Getting this bumper to me is for people who just got money to throw around, no offense.

Anyone who pays 2k+ for a stock bumper is out their bird. Aftermarket with cf ok, but not this. U can get the wholes filled and get repainted at practically the best shop u can think of, (and Im gonna exaggerate the price just to show u that even if they were to give u a stupid price, ud still pay only half) for at most 1k. But as long as ur happy thats cool.

Oh and I do believe that a top notch body shop can do a better job then the "robots" cause bmw's paint isnt the greatest in its stock form.

I'm thinking about the euro bumper for my AW E92...good thing is I live here in Germany...and can get one installed and painted for less than 900 euro...the only question is I'm shipping the car in a few months back to VA and wonder if I'll have any issues getting it through customs with that bumper on it.

That's partly true... Most body shops do a better job!

The orange peel from the factory sucks. Every time I've seen a part painted by a competent body shop it usually comes out better than the rest of the car.

Color matching is easy for a good shop, you will never know

You will not have ANY problems with customs. I just did it four months ago.

Thats ridiculous IMO, I much prefer $1500 in my pocket then "authenticity", especially when the outcome is exactly the same (if done by a professional body shop)

FALSE!

Your right about the paint quality being better with a top-end pro, but your wrong about the color matching a good body shop can match EXACTLY!!!

Agreed...and I dont mind spending money on my car, but I am not looking to spend 2 or 3 times as much as I need to for a simple mod!

+1 on everything you said, at least someone realizes it. Besides, for $2000 I can actually paint my bumper every spring for 4 years and have a nice freshly painted bumper, stone/rock chip free for the summer months.
