What is a good price for this used 2009 M3???

Hey guys:

Getting very impatient with waiting for an M, being there are non on dealer's lots that fit my criteria, I happened to stumble upon a used one that fits my exact specs.

It's a 2009 Manual, Tech, Premium, 19's, etc. Basically fully loaded up except for Enhanced Sound.

Only 4,000 miles on it. Looks immaculate. Comes with Clear Bar as well.

He's asking $58K. Said he wouldn't budge below $56K, but then just sent me an email to make an offer. What is a realistic, fair offer, where both of us would be getting a good deal on either side? Is $54K too high? Should I shoot for lower?

Just for reference, I know of a brand new 2009 that I can get for $59K, with sticker of $73K. Only thing is that it's a DCT, which I don't want.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd say 54k is a fair price with only 4k miles.. If it is in outstanding condition then go for it! Otherwise, 59k isn't much more for brand new assuming the dealer hasn't left the car outdoors for months on end and driven the hell out of it.

I wouldn't rule the DCT out.. The MT also has room for improvement (e.g. very notchy 2nd gear, long throw, overall sloppy feel).. I've driven/owned both.

Any more advice? This guy will not budge below $55K. I offered $53,500, and he won't have any of it.

Would $55K be paying too much?

I think that is a fair price, what is the production date on the car, is it from late 08 or late 09? I found one at a dealer for 56k with 2k miles, most i see are on dealer lots asking 60k

stick to your guns.. how many people are out there with 53k to throw at an m3? not to many. just let him know your there, with money in hand, and when he gets tired of waiting around he'll give it to you.

Yeah, I mean he tried telling me he was gonna just sell it to the dealer if he couldn't find anyone to give him $55K. I do not see a dealer paying anymore that $50K for a car like that. For $1,500, he's either not that desperate to sell the car, or just genuinely believes he will get $55K for it.

I may be wrong, but saving 5 grand by going used just for the tax savings may be a big mistake. Wasn't there a thing were you could get back a lot on taxes if you buy new, did that end with this year? I think you can only claim up to 49,500, but I would go new. DCT is pretty sweet!! Yea, 6mt is more fun, sometimes, but dct allows you to just relax and multitask when you want to.

I've been shopping M3's also. Your offer of $53,500 seems right on the money to me. Some prefer the 6MT to DCT, but they are the minority, and in any case it doesn't change the fact that DCT is simply more expensive. 2009 models with DCT and slightly higher mileage go for about $53-54k private party. I'd say the lower mileage is roughly an even trade for the less costly transmission.

You really just need to ask yourself how important it is for you to get the best deal out there, and how important it is for you to get the car you want. If another buyer comes along and gives your seller his $55k will you wish you had ponied up the extra $1500? If you answered yes, it must be a fair deal, so buy the car.

Wow, are you good. LOL, the car was sold yesterday. I'm kinda bummed, because this car had exactly what I wanted in it, then again if I am patient, I'm sure the right one will come along. At the end of the day, with what 2010's are going for, and 2011's able to be bought at invoice, I'm trying to be the least amount impulsive as possible. The guy must have gotten his $55K, because we agreed on $54,250, but then tells me the car is sold the next day. Kinda shady, but oh well.

I'm only good from experience. You were faceing a nearly identical scenario to a pickle I was in last month: Seller was asking $55k for exactly what I wanted. I got her to $53.5, but since I saw other, differently optioned & colored, M3's going for slightly less, I decided I had to have it for $53k. Car sold quickly for $53.5k to someone and now I'm about to drop over $10k more for a new one because I haven't seen another acceptable specimen come along.

Your obvious willingness to be patient will definitely be your friend. Patience and flexibility got me to the point where today I am deciding between a '10 $73k MSRP Coupe with 770 miles for $62,155 or a brand new '10 Sedan for $1500 under invoice. With the 2011's hitting the shores next month you are in a good position.

One last thing...if you end up buying a new or dealer demoed M3 (or any other M car, for that matter), be sure that the dealer will include the M Driving Experience with your purchase. For those who don't know what it is, it is an all-expense-paid trip (excluding airfare) to the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC where they spend a day instructing you on their various tracks in M3's, M5's, and M6's. If you paid for it it would cost you about $2000/person, and since you get to bring a friend it is almost a $4000 value. I got it with my M5 not even knowing it was offered, but when I was asking about it for my M3 purchase only about half the dealers would offer it. Some even told me it wasn't included. BS. Demand it and you will get it.

what if it was included and the owner didnt use it and sold the car and you buy the car?

I doubt the M Driving Experience is transferable. It's worth checking, I suppose, but I don't know who you'd ask. Maybe have the seller ask their SA, or call the Performance Driving Center?
