wait for New Model Change or buy now?

Hey guys,

I am torn right now. Don't know if I should buy the 2011/2012 M3 E92 or wait for the model change in a year. If I get it now, the car will be an old model in a years time.

What do you think I should do?

Now! The ///M Divison has gone mad and is replacing high revving engines with turbo's. How can you resist the V8? This is THE LAST N/A M car for awhile. I'd want to be a part of that. No matter how good the next M3 is...it's not going to be as special as the e9x.

I love my current E90 and don't think I would be "upgrading" to a V6 Turbo...

Not much help, but you get my point.

Buy now a slightly used low mileage one, a 2009/2010. A large part of the initial depreciation is gone, and you can enjoy the V8 M3 for the next 3 years until the new model shows-up, not earlier than 2014.

Then trade it in for the new model if you'll like it that much.

No brainer, buy an E9* S65 and enjoy the fantastic engine.

As above, the new 3 series will be out in a year or so but the M3 will not hit the market until 2014

i say wait. when the e46 was out.. everyone said the e92 was gona be no good.. that the engine should be a 6 cylinder and about the weight and how it sold out to be more luxurious.

but look at the e92 now. its an amazing car. the M engineers know what they are doing and there is no doubt in my mind that the next generation m3 will be better than this one. they are professionals with a history of making every new generation better than the last compared to forum members who are jumping the gun and making invalid assumptions without knowing anything about the car.

It will likely be 2015 before you can buy a next-gen M3 coupe. Not next year.

+1

I have the M5 w/ a V10. It will be strange for me to go to a V8 TT ...despite it being more powerful...lol

Lease an M3 today and turn it in for an F8x M4 when it arrives.

Your last chance to purchase a new M3 with a V8 ... the next one will be a V6 special motor now being designed and perfected unfortunately it will have twin turbos (as the rumour has it).

So last chance to purchase the pure V8 so you make the call, for you have to drive and live with it.

I was at the dealership yesterday and my SA said that E9X M3s are flying off the shelf because everybody wants the NA V8 while they can still get them. He said they have not had one on the lot in a long time because all the allocations they get are being sold before they even get here. He says business has been very good lately.

OP, I say you pick up an E9X M3 on a lease or better yet, on the BMW Select plan and then you can upgrade to the new M3 in 3-4 years if you choose too. Yes I said 3 to 4 years. The new M3 will not be out until at least a 2014 model. That means that you could still enjoy an E9X M3 for a few years before it becomes out of date.

Based on the history of BMW, I see 2012 being the last year for the E9X M3 and then there will be no M3 for 2013, and then there may be a 2014 M3/M4 introduced somewhere in spring of 2014.

The last model years are typically a lot better than the early model years, therefore until the ZCP M4 comes out, it could be 5 years...(if you wait)..

here's how i look at it... doesnt matter what you get they will get old... but yes its a little too late to get the m3, for me i could care less if its a high revving v8 i go after for performance if the new one is better id take that...

i am currently parting out the car due to me being bored of it. but still hesitating cause not sure what i want to replace it with... currently i am thinking of

1. 2010 GTR
2. Lotus Exige S260

Definitely. It's like this with almost all cars. The last 1-2 years of the model often look the best, and have the most features for that generation.

Not to say the F8x won't be better in most respects than the E9x M3, but if someone really likes the body style of the E9x's, now is the best time to buy.

Look what happened with the 2008 M3s. Newer iDrive introduced for 2009, and ZCP in 2010. The 2017 M4 will probably be incredible!

Life is too short. I say get the M3 now, and if you like the new one, switch. You don't have that option later unless you buy used.
