I'm 22 and I don't own an E9X M3 yet, but I'm shopping around.
I will fit into #3. My parents bought me my first car, a Ford Escort for $2,250. After that I got an interest for BMW's. I'm on my 3rd now and they've gotten progressively newer and nicer as I've gotten further into my career. I'm 22, taught myself a valuable skill, found an "in" into my career field at 19 because I'm good at what I do and from there I've just been moving up. I don't have any debt other than a a dental bill that I put on credit so that I can actually build credit, and the loan for my car. I didn't go to college so I dodged a financial bullet there. I'm waiting for my next raise/promotion before pulling the trigger on the M3. Not because I can't afford it now (I could) but because it can't hurt to have more money in savings and coming in on a monthly basis before making a more expensive purchase.

I work in a pretty lucrative field (consulting), have no student loan debt (thanks Mom & Dad), and am single with no real obligations. Not sure why the third voting option is "not a smart financial choice"...no car is. But I can easily afford it, so I said, "why not?" I also bought a gently used one, so someone else took the big depreciation hit.

I'm 22, Engaged full time job since I was 18.M3 is my second car I have ever had. Paid right out 47+tax last year novomber. Mines fully modded. Only payments I have is house and anything else that's not car realted. Way I see it is you can have anything you want in life just have to work for it. Things can't just be handed to you and take the easy way out...

Sold my 2008 350z and bought it preowned when I was 26. It probably wasn't the smartest financial decision but you only live once and I don't think want to wait til I'm much older to drive something I truly enjoy. Plus I don't have student loans thanks to mom and dad. I've purchased some property up to this point and it was just time to spend it on something for the present.

Slight thread revival. Bought my first m3, a 2 year old 2008 e92, when I was 25. I was flying private jets at the time making around 90k. Sold it when I went to work for a regional airline for career advancement. For any who know anything about regional airline pilots starting pay is around 25k!!!
Got hired by a major airline this summer and once I get on second year pay I will be making around 100k and am planning on buying an 09 or 10 e92 around a year from now. I can't wait!! Oh yea I will be 29 in July so I will still qualify for this thread! |

I was 29 when I got my new E92 M3, I have had many other "performance" cars in the past but nothing quite as expensive as my M3. I also have my own house, no one else supports me, monetarily speaking, and it also helps I'm not married nor do I have kids so that helps for sure. I could've got an new M3 years ago but when I found out they we're definitely gonna get rid of the V8, I made my move and got a 2013. Kind of a poor financial decision but I had a great car before I got my M and got a great deal on the trade in and my new M as well, so my payments aren't as crazy as you might think. Definitely not stretching myself thin over this car. But you can get in over your head fast if you think you just walk in and buy an M3, especially if you want options, sure the base is about $60k but unless you specifically ordered a base, most of us paid close to $70k+ new. That's a lotta dough
I know you're strictly speaking E9X M cars but sadly these days BMW, MB and other "Luxury" Brands are offering cheap/affordable cars for anyone pretty much, i.e. the 320i and CLA, so anyone can get one these days. Shit you can lease a new 320i or a CLA for the same cost of a lease on a Honda Accord. I think these brands should stick to Luxury not affordable cars for all, if that's the case why even get a BMW............ Last edited by JVP13; 01-15-2014 at 01:52 PM.. |
