Hi,

can't decide between the show (HRE 20") an the performance (BBS FI 19").
My heart beats for the P40's, but my mind says "Reduce the weight...".

I replaced my stock exhaust with the Akrapovic evolution system and lost 50 lbs. With the BBS FI i will lose further 30 lbs.

I like them both. The costs are not decisive.

What do you think? Thanks for your opinion.

BBS FI's all the way. With the P40's you will be gaining a lot of weight over your stock set up.

If you're all about weight reduction then get the BBS. If you want looks, go with P40.

Front: ~17lbs
Rear: ~ 19lbs

Costs (in Germany): about 1250 - 1400 Euro each. Depends on the finish.
Available in: black gloss, black matt, polished, silver and black diamond cut (silver face, black windows). And any custom color....

I would go with Black Gloss or Black Diamond cut

Having had imported the only set via BBS USA in north america, i have to say im VERY impressed with the BBS FI wheels when compared to most other wheels. The build quality and lightness cannot be matched. Its directly related to all of the motorsports wheels, and is engineered per each application and its load/weight requirements.

GTM is absolutely right about the engineering that has gone into these wheels.
In the US, many monoblock wheels are made by cutting one forged "blank". This is not the case with the BBS FI.

Load and fatigue testing for all the individual part numbers (per application) has really allowed them to optimise weight and strength per application. This has got to be one of the highest strength to weight ratio wheels on the market.

Definitely the BBS FI, if the price tag is not a "deal-breaker". You won't regret it.

Are there any posts on here where someone has actually noted that the weight reduction in wheels and exhaust, alone, has significantly improved their cars performance on/off the track? The coupe and the sedan weigh approximately 3,706 and 3,726 pounds, respectively. Are we talking one plus seconds here or just tenths with this reduction in weight? If weight reduction is the goal, then minus well consider other wheels, upgraded suspension, brakes, getting rid of your interior (i.e. radio, a/c, seats, carpet), etc. If not, then I guess you would want to go with what it is that makes you happy.

Anyways, both wheels are bad ass and I don't think you could go wrong with either. Good luck with your choice and make sure to post the pics once you have everything installed!!!

It's the UNSPRUNG weight loss that is significant, IMHO. I don't get a hard-on over losing 40 lbs on an exhaust, but I DO think shedding 3-5 lbs per corner pays dividends in the handling department. They say 1 lb of unsprung wt is worth 5 or 10 lb of curb wt, or something like that...

FWIW, I don't think the skinny F1 spokes look quite right on the chunky E9X body.

My vote is for the FI's all the way! I had a set of 20" wheels on the car before, and will tell you that the FI's are the largest "looking" set of 19" wheels out there. Most people at Bimmerfest would ask if they were 20" wheels, so take that for what it is worth...

Thank you. This is not even a question worth asking. HRE does not belong in the same sentence as a BBS Motorsport wheel, IMO.
