Rear visibility is practically non-existent. I felt like I was driving a uhaul truck in that regard. The gallardo is a beautiful car, but it's not a great car to drive at all. For the price I'd look into better driving cars, but that's just me. Not sure where they compare in price, but a F430 is like 30x better than the Gallardo to drive. The R8 V10 has a much better road feel too not to mention an interior that's way nicer. I feel like the only reason to buy a Gallardo is for the sound and attention you get driving one.

If you are going to spend money on a Gallardo, definitely test drive that car along with an F430 and R8 V10. You'll probably change your mind after.
I agree. I drove both cars on mountain roads and the F430 is vastly superior and also better quality in and out. Only the last gen gallardos were improved all around. Really depends what OP is looking for but I wasn't impressed at all by the first gen Gallardo. The interior also made me cringe. For that money you want some quality. The headroom and visibility of the car was very poor too.

The F430 was just a dream, like a scalpel on the road and sounded better than the Lambo.

But OP if you like the lambo go for it, still a good looking car and a head turner. The turbo kits have been out for a while so I'm sure you can speak to some tuners to get some quality feedback. I dont' think you will find many lambo owners on M3Post.

any reason why you suggest 09+? i'm still contemplating it and it's pretty much $40k difference. Besides the obvious face lift and the extra .2 liters

with $40k, I can do a bit with the car

No particular reason for the 09+, other than the newer body. I don't know any technical improvements, i just love the updated look.

Your absolutely right, you can save that money for the kit. It's all on you, tons of low mileage G's out there anyway, so you can get an 06 or so and slap those snails on.

Best of luck and be safe with it.

well it's going to be strictly a weekend/track car. Interior I don't really care about. I do like the F430, but it's a bit out of my price range, it's $150k+. Thanks for your input though

Well the overall lines of the car is the same, just front has revised headlights and of course a more aggressive front bumper, and the rear has the updated tail lights, no vent covers, and different rear bumper. I actually found a guy selling the body conversion with the Trefeo bumpers though, which I'm pretty sure what I will do.

LOL, way out of my price range. I could possibly get it if I sell my E92 M3, but I'm going to keep it.

I find it quite sad that exotics à la Lambo or Ferrari "assure" their exclusivity through exorbitant maintenance costs, which can't be justified reasonably by any means.

The BMW or even the M tax is peanuts compared to Ferrari prices for even the most standard replacement parts.

Are you saying the $300k purchase price can be justified reasonably? There is nothing reasonable about an overpriced exotic supercar. These cars are intended for people who have more money than they can possibly even count. It's the same with a Louis Vuitton bag or Rolex watch that cost thousands of dollars; geared towards the filthy rich big spenders, not people who have even a slightest grasp of value for the dollar.

I disagree and the OP didn't mention he didn't have the money to fix items if something did happen. I wouldn't want a car I purchased (whether it is a $20k Honda or a $500k SuperCar) to be in the shop often whether I have the money or not to fix it.

If one is a millionaire I don't see the problem with buying a Lamborghini. Making $3 million/year and buying a $300k car is like making $200k/year and buying a $20k Honda. It's not that impossible to make $3MM/year, and an exotic car is something rich people pride themselves with. So it's not a bad purchase, even if you're not a huge car enthusiast.

You sound bitter. While some exotics like the Aventador may be expensive to maintain, the Gallardo is daily driven by many people. It's pretty dam reliable.

Don't you think you should ask this on a Lambo board?

Matt's awesome! Love seeing an American guy reviewing cars. Beats some stuck up british dude who thinks we all have to buy ultra expensive stock cars for performance. Matt also reviews modded cars.

I find the first-gen Gallardo really underwhelming. Of course the initial reaction is wow but I think you will get over it too quickly unless you spend more on it. I'd rather have a Stradale. I think a good compromise is maybe finding a modified Gallardo, lots of properly done-up ones on 6SpeedOnline.com. Congrats that you are able to go to the next level. Best of luck with your purchase.

But it's always fun to see that "stuck up british dude" spin out and crash his cars because of his terrible driving skills and his big belly getting in the way of the steering wheel
