AD08 vs RE11

Anyone have experience with both tires for track/daily use? I'm leaning towards the RE11 as the price is slightly better and they don't necessarily have any temp restrictions (the AD08's can't be stored in temps below 14F which might be a problem for me as my garage is not heated). I don't like the fact that the RE11's are slightly heavier than the AD08's.

Also I understand Bridgestone is coming out with the replacement for the RE11 which is the RE11A however it is not certain they will make stock ZCP sizes as they do the RE11. I am getting the tires in stock ZCP sizes - 245/35/19 and 265/35/19.

On the same car, I have used AD08 and RE01R which uses the same tire compound as the RE11 - RE11 just has a different tread pattern and sidewall design.

If you are using it for track use, the Bridgestone gets greasy and overheats a lot faster than the AD08. The AD08 will last a lot longer before getting greasy. The Bridgestone is more comfortable and quieter for street use but get loud as the tread wears down. The AD08's sidewall is stiffer and a bit louder on the street but stays constant throughout its treadlife.

Both are great tires but AD08 gets my choice because it's more track friendly and has stiff sidewalls for cornering feel. RE11 is a bit better if you use it primarily for street driving but noisy when the tread wears down.

The next generation tires are out for these tires - the RE11A and AD08R. It'd be great to see a comparison of these next-gen tires.

Oh, and temps never fall below 40 degrees F here in San Francisco so I can use them all year round.

I used to be a real fan of ad08s but after using nt01s I have a hard time dealing with the lower grip level. I spun of into the dirt this weekend on my ad08s and promptly switched to the nt01s and had no issues after that. I drive flat out like purple derple. I also at times live my life a quarter mile at a time. That's the distance from my house to the bar on foot.

Seriously though either is a good choice for the street and mild track use. Ad08s function okay as well in the wet on track. Not great but okay.

While I don't have direct experience with the RE11's, a few of our customers have mentioned that while they're great for street use, on the track they tend to heat up relatively quickly compared to other performance tires, and thus becomes very greasy. My experience with AD08's have been good from the couple of sets I had, and they were great dual duty tires with pretty good grip for a street tire, and they hold their own pretty well on the track. For your two options, I'd vote AD08.

Strange. In PSS vs RE11 threads, RE11 dont get greasy on the track.

In AD08 vs RE11 threads, the RE11 get greasy.

Lol.

Both tires will do good double duty. Not as good as having them track tires though.

RE11 is asymmetrical so you can rotate side to side. The Yoko will have to be flipped on the rim if you want to rotate, if that is something that concerns you.

Of course the RE11 lasts much longer than the PSS on track. The RE11 is in a different class of tire. The PSS is more street friendly and lasts longer in daily driving but in terms of performance, they are totally outclassed.

i was just laughing at the "does not get greasy" vs. "gets greasy" depending on which tire it is compared to....i mean it either gets greasy or it doesn't right?

I heard many times the rs3's were twitchy in the rain. Past reviews and personal experience the dunlop star specs held good in the wet. Their successor, the z2's, still have the good wet performance from i heard.

I have ad08s now and just want a tire for to and from the track and wet weather only. Ad08s are okay but not great.

It depends how hard you push the tires. All street tires get greasy eventually.

i think as you wear your ad08's down you will notice an increase in grip in the rain.

That's what I was thinking also. And they will wear a little better for me since I will continually cord inner edge with street use due to high camber. I currently have 2 sets of AD08s to use up first. And a set of falkens.

Your garage must look similar to mine (full of tires, in all stages of wear).

Yes I have 2 sets of nt01s as well and 3 sets of wheels. I need to consolodate it. Ideally I would have 4 sets of wheels and tires, street-wet, real wet track tires, nt01s and full slick r6 or something. I just keep adding tire rack wall mount racks until I don't have room. I also have a bedroom in my house full of car parts.

No love for Pirelli? My friend has the P zeros they put on the turbo S on his cobra and they seem great. I haven't tracked with it but he seems happy. I had them on a C 63 and thought they wore quickly but they seemed ok for DD.
