It does have "Brake Assist", though.

That's true, but that's not the same as some of the other "here, let me help you put the brakes on when it's the last thing you wanted" stuff. It takes a while to get used to Brake Assist with a BBK - the tendency is for the ABS to cycle if you slap the pedal quickly but lightly, say when someone steps off the sidewalk into that cross-walk just ahead. Once you get used to it, it stops being a problem.

The really educational exercise with a new M3 is to do a few laps at your local track with DSC set to "normal". The rear brakes start to melt very quickly.

That's very interesting, because the pedal responds much better when accelerating than just coasting in my car. I thought the only thing that was missing is the soft stop from the advanced DSC functions. Or maybe your car is also missing the hill assist?

I assumed the "useful" features made it from the base model 3 series, as they have in the 997 as soon as the new dsc and abs features were available from the vendor (I'm not sure if it's Bosch or whoever it is). Have you seen a comparison chart with all 3 series based models where these functions are missing by the M3?

The damn datasheets say the exact same thing: DSC... with additional functions. Which could be different.
