When they get rid of the CEL is PC just turning off the rear O2 sensor? If so, you will fail a readiness test. Many states require passing a readiness test for inspection.
PC - can you chime in and let us know how you handle the CEL issue from HFC's or catless exhausts?

My understanding is they don't turn off the rear 02's, they are just increasing the tolerance of the signal so the car won't kick off a CEL. BTW, BMW use to have a CEL and a SES light. Is it different with the E9X M3s? CEL was for serious malfunctions while the SES light was generally for emission issues.

you are correct like on my E39 M5 when my SS straight pipe would act up it would kick off the SES bc of the 02 sensor, if something serious it would be the CEL
that is why i asked bc this car only has the CEL so it shares important and not important info. that is why i got the Dinan one so if something bad happened it still worked vs some companies that shut it off all together Quote:

Sorry for the late reply Gentlemen, yes we can turn off the CEL so you don't have to worry about it. We've had customers who plan on ordering HFC in the future just order stage II to be proactive. Your CEL will still function but you won't get that annoying increased emissions warning.

there you go question answered, good info. good to know the cars main CEL works as well and isn't shut off all together. in my op this is important and if the tuning company can't do this and they have to shut it off for the whole car then they shouldn't be tuning bc when some poor bastards car blows or what not bc he didn't see a CEL light you bet they aint gonna foot the bill
props powerchip for having the correct tune for that

You actually didn't answer my question though. Please let us know how you are going about avoiding the CEL from rear O2's? Are you simply shutting the rear O2's off? This is quite important as this will cause a fail of a readiness test. Or are you somehow changing the tolerances of them so they aren't so sensitive to throwing a CEL?

Our stage II tune is considered "race" software and we can't guarantee the car will pass smog with race software installed, although I've heard from a few customers that claimed to have passed readiness, I have no further insight on that. If the time comes that a car needs to pass an emissions test, we will facilitate going back to stock for smog purposes which is what we have done for lots of other makes and models since emissions regulations have gotten so strict. Lastly to clear the confusion as I misunderstood hogwild's initial post, for current stage I cars, you would not have to pay for an entirely new tune to upgrade to stage II, it would just be the difference between the two. |

Well in that case -
Has anybody with a PC (w/ CEL delete) actually plugged in a scanner and checked the readiness of the rear O2? Or know for sure if it passes a readiness test?

I have the PC tune (w/CEL delete) and failed the Maryland emissions test with the following codes "P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1" and "P0430 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2".

There is an issue with your tune. PC needs to reflash your car. It seems when we did our group flashes, something was done incorrectly. It was turning off the light, but the computer was still storing your Cat fault codes, P0420 and P0430. PC can fix this. Call them. They reflashed my car and everything is right now.
