compact fluorescent light bulb

Does anyone use CFL bulbs in their home? They are supposed to last 5-10x longer while using about 1/3 of the energy. Not to mention reduced heat output, less frequent purchasing of incandescent bulbs.

I came home and my gf had replaced about 60 something bulbs all throughout my house at about 4.50 a pop. The light looks a little different now, kind of whiter light. I guess I will just have to watch the utility bill and see how it changes. The upfront costs isnt bad, but i cant say i have ever just purchased 200+ dollars in light bulbs at once. The other thing is it that I had nice GE Edison bulbs which arent cheap (not much cheaper than the CFLs). She kindly gave them to her mom. Would have made since to let them die out first and then slowly replace them.

I do a lot of reading so I did some research on lighting, and ended up buying this:

http://www.fullspectrumsolutions.com...esk_18_ctg.htm

It's 70w...so probably 200w equivalent to regular bulb. Very bright...but most of all...using it makes things easier to read. The letters on books are now super crisp. I like to call it the BMW of lamps/light.

I use CFLs in the rest of the house...they take a while to warm up and get bright. But they do seem to last much longer.

I'd be interested in trying out the BlueMax CFLs as shown here:

These heat up in about 30 seconds to full brightness. Initially they are dim.

These are a brighter light than a normal bulb. They are rated in Kelvins, kind of like the Xeons. I found this on Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_fluorescent_lamp

These are a 4200K or 'cool white' range. The majority of mine are 14w or 60w equivalent, but look more like a 100w. I do have some that are 23w or 100w equivalent, but they are pretty bright. The lights themselves look pretty cool, spiral, like a big white curly fry.

pg&e in california is working with some stores to offer these bulbs at a huge discount. the best i've seen so far was at ranch 99 asian supermarket (of all places, lol), 99 cents for 3 bulbs that are suppose to be equivalent to 75w.

color wise, i found the ge energy smart bulbs have the best color. some of the older packaging says soft white on the front. it'll usually say soft white some where on the description.

i find the lights take about 30 to 60 sec to achieve full brightness.

I made the mistake of getting a number of these goofy lights. I can't stand the delay. When I flip a switch for light, I want light right then, not two or three seconds later.
