brake fluid low

it sounds easy, but i dont want to screw anything up. is this something i can do on my own? it says service overdue for this?

If you are due for the brake fluid flush, then let the dealer do it and it will be fine. It is a free service to do the brake fluid flush.

The service involves replacing the brake fluid (all of it, including that which is in the lines) and not topping it off. And since brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water) - it is a good idea to replace it on time, not miles, to limit system corrosion and impact to boiling point (and effectiveness). Mike Miller (technical editor for Roundel and Bimmer) recommends replacement every year. I think the car's computer recommends every 2 years. So go for the replacement as soon as possible. I too would let the Dealer perform the service since it's included.
It will get recorded in your service log as well.

Its a pricey thing to let the dealer do. Not to be mean, but maybe if you did it yourself you would learn a bit more about the BMW m3 and maintenance world and save yourself cash.

If you fluid is low, it's because your pads are low. If you fill it now, some will need to be removed before new pads are installed. If not, when the pistons are pushed back in, the reservoir will overflow.

Low brake fluid is also a good indication that your brake pads are running low as well given that there are no leaks.

This is a pretty easy DYI, if you are so inclined and motivated to save some $$. Its fun for me and many here to lay hands on our Ms and accomplish minor projects. All you need is a floor jack, a couple of wrenches, and some other bits. Look under the DYI section here, there is a very good thread, just follow it closely.

Either way, agree with the annual flush. Good luck!
