Battery is doing fine for me after about 18 months of being installed and my accessory load is pretty high with over 2100W of amplifiers for my audio system.

I want to replace my 2009 E90's battery with the Diehard you linked above. I'm just wondering about the fitment of the Diehard. Did the Diehard have the same dimensions as the OEM battery? Or was it longer/shorter by an inch or two?

I have the One Step Electronics cable, so I'll either use INPA or Tools32 to register.

*EDIT*
Nevermind. I just had to pull the cable back to see the OEM battery specs. 90ah and 900CCA

I also looked in my trace file from NCS Expert and found this.

Looks like you have an AGM battery (black case?) - if so, your replacement should be AGM also.

I think everybody knows that already. What's your point?

Thanks for the heads up on the DieHard battery! Just to be clear, no need to code because the specs are very close to OEM. Just need to register that it's a new battery?

Yes, I only registered. I did not recode.

I just replaced the battery over the weekend with the Sears Group 49 AGM. I've replaced a lot of batteries on other cars and it is always a relatively easy task that takes a few minutes... But damn the M3 battery is hard to replace!

It took me nearly 2 hours to replace the battery. Disconnecting all the cables and electronic stuff on top of the battery and then trying to get your hand down to loosen the bottom battery bracket. You need a long extension with a 10mm socket. Then when putting it back on, you reach your hand in blindly and try to fit the bolt into the hole. It's totally trial/error and luck.

Then the weight and size of the battery is an issue. This thing is 60 lbs and a pain trying to put this huge thing into the tiny hole while keeping the cables and stuff out of the way...

Agreed. I was definitely not as simple as you would expect. Trying to lift the battery into that space was a bit awkward and the weight wasn't helping the issue.

The one good thing about a battery replacement on the M is that you actually DESERVE a beer on completion!

This post of your's is pretty old. Do you still recommend only OEM for replacement?

I'm getting a slow crank once in awhile, but no low battery warnings or anything. Checking things out before it goes completely.

I ended up putting it in on one of the sides so it was standing on the end and then dropping the other side down once it was in the hole.

Yes, I wouldn't mind that problem with certain things.

I recommend having 1 extra person to help. As others have said, the battery weighs a ton and there's not much room back there. Almost crushed my wires putting the battery back in.

Good info here. Is the Sears replacement slightly smaller than OEM in terms of physical size? I am not looking forward to the day when I have to do this. I always knew the battery was going to be a pita BC of the size and location

From what I remember, L and W are about the same but H is actually a little bit taller than OEM.

No issues with mine after 2.5 years. And the car doesn't get driven all that much these days, and I don't use a battery tender for the most part either.

Just installed this today. Battery was heavy but manageable by standing against the right rear quarter panel. Thanks all for the tips!

Good to see this thread is still going. My battery still seems to be going strong after 3+ years. I probably won't be able to give many more updates since I won't have the car much longer.
