fire suit

im having issue with suit fit. i am 6 foot and 195-200. i read measurements on alpine star site and bought a 54. got it and the suit fits fine except for in the arms-armpit area. very tight as i have somewhat larger arms from working out. sent it back and got a 56 and have the same issue. I dont really want to spend 1600 bucks on a gp pro suit or whatever its called just so my guns fit! any ideas.

Are you local to a shop?

The various brands all have different fits, and the best way is to try them all out.

I have the same problem with the crotch area. For the same reason, I cannot 5- and 6-point harnesses...

I think A* tends to run small, try out a different brand. My sparco is roomy (although probably a size or two large on me).

thanks for the help. serious or not. various things i read say different things about consequences of a tight suit vs loose. trapped air in loose suit or quicker heating time of skin surface if tight.

Sparco has a custom suit available (sizes, color, patches). You might have to go this route if you cant find one that fits.

I had exactly the same issue when trying on Alpinestars suits. Their cut is designed to be narrower around the shoulder and torso than most other brands.

You may want to try an OMP suit. They tend to have a bit more room in the upper torso, shoulder and arms. They also pre-curve the arms, so they don't stretch as much when in the car.

What do the arms feel like when you're in the car, with the harness on and the steering wheel at full lock? If you don't find the suit comfortable, don't get it. If you ever start doing any longer races, you want to be as comfortable as possible - you should never think about the fit of your suit when driving.

PS. What's the name of your chump car team!? We're number 73 - Money Shift Motorsports, running an E30 325i sedan.

Personally I plan on spending the money on the most comfortable suit possible. You may be in the car for 2+ hours at a time. Heck Eddie did a 5 hour stint in the 25 hours of Thill. You don't want to get tired or distracted because the suit is bothering you.

When I rode motorcycles I found that A* stuff fit tight in the arms. It sounds like you (OP) and I have similar fit issues with stuff; if it fits in my midsection it tends to be really tight around the shoulders and arms.

perhaps you should do more lifts than just strictly bicep curls? Then you won't be so disproportionally out of shape.

it's like test fitting underwear or swimsuits, once your pit touched, dont' take it back.
