Exclamation Go Forward or Send Back?

Hey guys,

Have an amuse rep bumper in the shop right now, and I'm kinda at a cross roads of what to do. I attached some pictures of the fitment.

It isn't perfect (as expected with a rep), but the shop it's at now won't do any major modifications beyond some sanding/etc (no cutting). There might be another shop that could, but I don't know their quality.

What would you do at this point? Do you think when it's bolted on it will improve the fit a good amount (especially at the edges)? Have them sand and and very minor tweaks should make it look pretty good? Try another shop? Send it back?

It's been a hell of day, and I would love some help on this. Thanks guys.

Have the bumped installed by a shop the specializes in custom work. Even name brand/non-rep stuff requires modification a lot of the time. Is it FRP or urethane?

i think i'm just a little surprised by the amount of work it'll take to get it right. As is, the hood won't really close, the brake ducts won't fit on, and there's alignment issues all over. I had an M3 rep bumper for 335 that fit like a glove- didn't even test fit and it was just about perfect haha

Nate is the owner and also drives a e90 m3. I think he worked on alot of aftermarket e9x bumpers

Huge difference between frp and poly bumpers. FRP bumpers always needs alot of work and never fit correctly. The poly bumper you received is legit as the company that makes them that everyone buys from a third party here in the states is a HUGE company that makes many bumpers and specializes in great fitment.

Yea, I had talked to Nate, but apparently C & C got really swamped the last few days, and a tech broke an ankle or something so they're short staffed at the moment too. Plus they're pretty far away, so it makes things a little extra complicated. Looks like I'm going to take it to Status Auto Works in Gardena as the guy has an M3 and has done work on these kinda things before, and gave me a really good price.

To make things better, I got pulled over today shooting a quick text out while fully stopped at a light (which i thought was legal) in my sweet Chevy HHR rental. I would say it was the pinnacle of my life.

send it back and get the original.. you're going to spend more money trying to make this one fit.

Your going to need to loosen your fenders to position the bumper properly as well as cut/dremel the bumper to fit it...

This is what I had to do with my REAL Vorsteiner bumper to fit it properly.

But being that's it's a rep and I cannot see it in person, it may never fit as it may have some serious flaws.

Not really, real one is A LOT more expensive.

OP - take it to another body shop, you need a body shop that specializes in custom work and has worked with aftermarket bumpers before. The bumper will fit they just gotta know what they're doing when it comes to aftermarket FRP bumpers. I had the same problem when I got my bumper.

Unless you got your bumper from someone else. Then maybe the fitment is different. I got mine from CFK.
Where did you buy yours from?

Good luck

Yea, I figure it's just as likely I'll run into some of the same fitment issues with the real deal– maybe not as bad, but I'd still get an extra bill for it all.

Hopefully this next shop will be able to get it done.

Just an FYI, some shops are just lazy...

When I got my bumper I brought it to a body shop I knew for the install. The guy had it for a day and called me to say there was a problem and the bumper fit like crap. I came to see it and it looked as if it was not fitting properly he told me it will never fit properly NEVER...

Long story short... Me and a buddy put the bumper on ourselves over the weekend with basically 100% perfect fitiment. Want it done right, do it urself or find someone you trust....

They specialize this kind of stuff... they will make that fit..

Appreciate it. Going to try this other shop a try as it's a little more local– after they take a closer look today they're going to determine whether or not they can make it fit. If they dont think they can, I'll definitely hit up DTM. thanks man.
