How HOT in temperature do the OEM exhaust tips get after driving???

OK, I am thinking of having my exhaust tips painted glossy black to match my SS II and blacked out E92 M3. Kind of like the M3 Special Edition Blacked Out Chrome Accents. But I know glossy black would be darker of course. I spoke to a very reputable paint shop here in Germany and he can do it, does excellent work, but he needed to know how HOT the OEM exhaust tips get in order to order the correct paint to tolerate the exhaust temps. Like how HOT in temp (Celsius/Fahrenheit) do they get after I'd say like 2 hours of 100mph+ driving. That is how fast I drive here in Germany at times on the Autobahns nonstop approx before I get gas again! Thanks!

Measure it on your car. Cheap AC-DC meters often provide this functionality as well.

Keep in mind these are EXHAUST temp measurements based on the type fuel being burned. Not the temp of your exhaust tip which will be much cooler than the actual exhaust vapor.

Buy an infrared thermometer if you must know. Plus they're a nice addition to any tool box. You can measure just about anything, being your A/C performance, engine temperature before you touch it... you name it.

On the other hand, if you do it right, there's no need to take any temperatures. Just get them ceramic powder-coated and you'd never have to worry about them. Good luck.

+1

It get hot enough to let you know it's not free-flowing. The better an exhaust flows, the cooler the gasses are out the tailpipe when running correctly.

From warming-up and cooling down, your asking a lot out of any paint. Powdercoat is the only way to go.

The temp of the exhaust tips is also going to vary significantly based on the outside ambient temperature.
