Wheel Stud Locks
Sorry if a re-post, but didn't see any good info and or recommendation on wheel locks for M3.
BMWusa accessories has 2 kinds of locks,- set of 4 for $41.25, and onother set of 4 for $65.51. The $41.25 is a basic Wheel Stud Lock.... The $65.51 has a Wheel Stud Locks-Security version w/ many key codes ? does it mean it's better? Here is link to BMWUSA.com accessories: http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...&productId=578 Any thoughts on this? Is it worth it?

You dealer will likely put on wheel locks at no extra charge. My dealer has always included them on my cars. I assume the cheaper ones all use the same key? The ones with the different keys are obviously better but I have always had the cheaper ones and never had a problem.

In addition to the BMW option, I also found pretty good reviews on the RAD locks. They seemed to be pretty well constructed and other than not being available in black were perfect for me.
Some high-temp black, some tape and four holes in a carboard box/holder and I'm done!

Good idea to ask dealer to include locks with the car...

If someone wants a wheel bad enough there are easy ways to get it off regardless of how good your locking lugs are. If you can get the dealer to throw them on for free, great. If not, I wouldn't waste my money.

But I also agree that if someone wants your wheels bad enough, no wheel lock in the world will stop them. Doesn't hurt to make it harder for them though |

the BMW Wheel lock:
1. cheaper one is a generic part number 2. the 60+ one is a McGard based Black lug bolt lock I find the above two to work the same way. the only way to get an almost truly unique key and the only cold forged lug bolt locks on the market is RAD from Germany. we have plenty in stock, if interested: http://www.wstoshop.com/servlet/the-...el-Lock/Detail However, the RAD comes in a proprietary Dacromat coating only. stops seizing and corrosion. If you want a Black solution, the McGard or the Gorilla lug bolt locks are the only solution.

For the OP, these are not stud locks that BMW sells. BMW sells bolt locks.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

THe BMW enhanced security lock is basically a rebadged McGuard lock which you can get for $39 on Amazon with free shipping. RAD locks are good but as others have said, don't come in black so it won't match the OEM lug bolts if that matters.

The more expensive one has a different keying system, but more important the head is larger in diameter. While the heads on the cheaper ones are the same size as the regular bolts; the newer ones are bigger to accommodate the key design. I have some wheels that the new ones won't fit because the bolt head won't go inside the recessed bolt hole. |
