Sorry to bring this back from the dead. But my 2008 M3 is having the same noise as dey87. Any idea what this could be? Tensioners/idler pulleys? My car just hit 70K miles

This ECS Tuning page shows all the M3 S65 parts. 2 belts, 2 hydraulic tensioners, 3 idler pulleys with internal bearings (that could fail). I have the supercharger whine, but also have an oil filter housing leak at 190k miles. So I have to do this belt kit too. $$$ to replace a $15.00 dollar gasket. An indie BMW shop should be able to install all the parts. You have low mileage, but the rubber does degrade, along with bearings on the pulleys, and hydraulic tensioners over time. Replace them all...should cost over $1k unfortunately. No rush and can wait til the snow melts. Speaking of Rush. Godspeed Neil Peart!! Good Luck, Cheers |

I'm trying to chase down this whine/whir too. It sounds a lot like dry87's video, but seems to disappear or at least mostly fade away once the car gets nice and warm. I would think that a pulley noise would be constant, but I could be wrong. I've replaced the idler pulley, but no luck. Has anybody else had the issue only when the car is cold?
