The weight difference between the two cars stock vs stock is more like 60lbs. I have a car and driver at home; they weighed the cars on the same day. The M3 does not weigh 3700 without passenger. It weighs around ~3570 lb. I weighed mine at the track with a little over half tank of gas at 3495 lbs (after removing all the stuff in the trunk).

Yes, but that doesn't explain why there is such a large difference between the listed weights for the two cars, whereas in reality, there isn't.

Yes, the BMW quoted vehicle weight is greater than most cars weigh without the driver but this is true for both the M3 and 335i. You can also feel the extra weight in the handling and steering despite the M3s superior suspension and tires. The real problem when you start comparing the M3 to the 335i is the torque / weight ratio.
M3 Sedan 12.6 lb /lb-ft torque M3 Coupe 12.6 lb / lb-ft torque 335i Sedan 12.0 lb /lb-ft torque 335i Coupe 11.9 lb /lb-ft torque The issue is even more pronounced when you consider that BMW has substantially underrated the 335i engine--not the case in the M3. As automobile mag and several other dyno tests have found, the 335i is actually closer to 350-360lb-ft of torque. This makes it: 335i Sedan ~10 lb /lb-ft torque 335i Coupe ~10 lb /lb-ft torque The 335i is caring around ~2lb less per lb-ft or torque than the M3! This explains why the M3 does not feel as quick off the line compared to the 335i. The M3 needs a diet. :-( JB
