I am really liking the idea of going with a resonated x pipe with either a MPE, Eisenmann Race, or Gintani Race.

You won't be disappointed either way. My thoughts: MPE is much quieter when cruising, but gets just as loud as Eisenmann when you floor it. MPE has a distinct resonance because of the material that cannot be replicated without Inconel. I liked both Eisenmann and MPE, Eisenmann is more in your face, but MPE sounds more exotic IMO.

Exhaust note is very subjective much like Exterior Color. Best thing to do if possible, is to hear your narrowed down choices in person. Before I decided on my BMW Performance Exhaust, I narrowed it down to ///MPE, Eisenmann and Meisterchaft. I like the civilized sound of the ///MPE while driving it tame. And LOVE it when I drive with more aggressiveness especially when RPM is beyond 3500. The ///MPE exhaust note is so addicting. Good luck in your search.

What has the most throaty bassy sound?

I have always like the C63 AMG exhaust and was looking for the throatier M3 that I can find.. I hear that the Akrapovic gets pretty close.. I hate a high pitched exhaust though, and I like to be able to hear it from inside for my personal enjoyment..

Have you looked at the gintani valved sport or just sport (slip-on only). It's bassy/boomy with a touch of NASCAR when you are at WOT. i think it gives you what you are looking for.

I have the oem mod and love it (quiet when I want and RAW when I'm on it), but am thinking about Gintani for the boom! Look for some vids on YouTube. Just the slip-on clips though.

If the MPE is so amazing then why is it one of the most resold exhausts on this site?

Just thinking out loud.....

I am dying to hear some M3 exhaust in person which is why I have posted in the "regional" forums hoping someone nearby would have some connections or have an exhaust that I could listen to...... but nobody is chiming in!!!
I live in Greensboro, NC which is close to Charlotte and Raleigh. You would think that there would be quite a few in those cities but.... NOPE!
If the MPE is the most re-sold exhaust on this board then I would be very interested to know why. Maybe because the note is a bit too subdued?

If you want more than what the stock M3 exhaust gives you, but don't want the entire neighborhood to hear you coming from 5 miles away, and want the exhaust to shut up when you're cruising, the MPE is the way to go.

Most people on here seem to want:
a. Louder
b. Even Louder
c. Look at me, I'm German NASCAR M3
d. Power
e. Big ass tips

You'll also note that a lot of people who try tons of exhausts are selling them 6 months later because after the novelty wears off, it's just too much noise, drone, etc. for daily driving. Or their exhaust made them deaf and they need even louder exhausts.

But, some even go back to MPE.

Is it? I thought people always had trouble finding the MPE.

I think you can get the mpe rather easily and yes there are a lot on the forums. I dont think its worth 3-4k though for an axle back?!

I personally sold mine because I wanted to gain some HP and wanted a more agressive sound, tried to pair it with a couple of x-pipes and its sound was extremely raspy, got the akra evo and dont regret it!

This has proven to me I can only judge in person because the x-pipe with MPE that I have listened to online sounds anything but raspy. To me the MPE sounds the least raspy even with x-pipe.... Are the video clips that misleading?!?!

Keep in mind that exhausts that may sound great at idle and at WOT may be very difficult to tolerate during long drives due to drone.

I can assure you it is raspy because I had it installed in my car and paired with a borla x pipe and then with a challenge street x-pipe and both sounded extremely raspy, the MPE sounds nice by itself but IMO is not designed to be paired with any x-pipe

Hi, which x-pipe did you use? The ones i have used make the MPE rasp like crazy and it gets annoying after a while. The Eis race in my opinion sounds badass in the term of a muscular sound.

Does anybody know the DB level of the M Performance exhaust?
Does the DB level change within time as the axel breaks in?
How much louder was the Eis race compared to MPE?

Thanks

Same boat. I have the mpe installed and was going the route of xpipe even making my own xpipe to get it louder and realized I'm just fighting it upstream. then I'm dealing with cats, cel's, after market xpipe, cutting my Oem pipe To keep the cats....all these scenarios when the money is the same as just buying a different axle back.

So..... If I want louder exhaust, Just buy another one rather than try to keep the mpe and make it work. So I did. Went with AA axle back. Arrives next week. Put the mpe on the shelf for now.

Sould be nice.

Well there goes X Pipe plans. In the bin...

I would have thought most of the rasp came came from X pipes with no resonator or cats.

I originally intended to get a challenge sport which comes with a pair of resonators and HFCs to keep rasp low.

A 4 resonator x pipe such as the Dinan (I have this) or the Borla might work with the MPE.

Check out the Evolve system. Also comes of course with the benefit of the Evolve re-map if you want to go down that road.
