opinions on S2000

My best friends brother is thinking about gettting the 2006 S2000 and i was wondering if you guys could tell what you know regarding the car. i know there are a few car buffs in here or members that have driven or know of people that have driven the S2000. i never considered the S2000 when i was shopping so i dont know too much about it...

any input would be great, thanks y'alls!!

OH, and i read the previous threads comparing the e90 and s2000 too, good stuff. im not looking for so much a comparison between the cars but rather just a pro and con of it by itself...hope that makes sense...

i dont know much about the 06 s2000, but i heard the 00-03 are the best s2000 made. i own an 03 s2000 myself. all i can say is. awesome!! i wouldnt comapre it to the e90, because s2000 is one true sports car. i heard honda is having a awesome lease program for them, but i wont go there. another thing is, the s2000 is going to be discontinue. i heard, not sure.

The S2000 is an excellent car in almost every aspect (except for the lack of torque, but it's still a fun car to drive on the limit).

The main difference between the '00-'03 s2ks (AP1s) and the '03-'06 s2ks (AP2s) is the engine. The AP2s come with the F22 2.2L engine that has a lower redline, but produces more torque. The suspension was also upgraded resulting in quicker lap times (Best Motoring did a side by side comparison on the AP1s and AP2s). Also, there were some minor cosmetic interior and exterior changes (larger standard wheels). Both the AP1s and AP2s are still great cars though.

The biggest change for the MY06 s2k is the replacement of the throttle cable with a drive-by-wire system. People were concerned with the throttle response lag that DBWs usually are flawed with. However, a magazine tested it, and like the NSX's excellent DBW system, it's not an issue at all. There are some extra features add for the new year, and they should be on the Honda website.

As for comparing the E90 and the S2000...you really can't. They're just completely different vehicles with different purposes. The E90 will obviously have a lower insurance cost, more amenities, and more cargo room (and of course back seats).

BTW, has he considered buying an '05? Right now with the incentive, they can be had for under invoice easily.

the car's been around for quite a while, and I hear they'll be no replacement.
the design's nice, but it's almost 6 years old and looks a bit dated to me.

I tried to sit in one, and it was way too small. I'm only 6'1 or 6'2 on a good day. I would have loved to test drive one, but just didn't fit in the thing correctly.

I hear the handling's amazing, but if I wanted an 8000rpm redline and 140 ftlbs of torque I'd get a motorcycle

Car is a good'un. But really only comes alive when your rev the balls off it......which is fine for the track but a bit frustrating on the road.

Can also be a bit tricky on the limit apparently.

Not any every day driver but fun as hell when you do drive it. Sucks in traffic unless there are some hotties nearby. Never had more fun in a four wheeled vehicle.

The S2000 handles like a go kart and is pretty quick hitting 14sec 1/4mile. A very fun car to drive indeed. That would be one of my top choices if I was to buy a 2 seater Convertible.

Definitely a fun fun car. Most toss-able car I've ever owned, and that 9k rpm redline screams like a banshee! Best 6 speed gearbox I've ever driven and many say it's the best available.

But.... only fun as a second/weekend car IMO. If you drive much at all (especially commuting), the same things that make it fun, detracts from it. It's still just a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine, so it really has very little torque down low. Plus, having to rev this thing all the way past 6-7k rpm into vtec to get any power gets a bit old. Lastly, it's tossable because it's so small, but it gets a little claustrophic inside if you have the top up and are in the car for an extended amount of time.

As for looks.. it can be quite the looker
