Check engine light on the track, Vanos timing problem???
Just came home from the track where I was driving pretty good till the car threw a check engine light, something which is becoming a common occurrence with this car
When I came home I scanned the car and found 2 codes, the generic OBD code P000A, and BMW code 271A. It seems to have something to do with intake vanos timing on bank 1. What can be the cause of this? Bad camshaft position sensor? Possible oil starvation on the track? No, my oil level never went down below the minimim but the temps were quite high at over 130 Celsius. I cleared the codes and obviously I don't have a clue if the problem will happen again or not. And no, there are no unusual sights, sounds, or odors from the car. |

best to look at the live data for camshaft position of all 4 cams and see the real time position of these cams on a proper diagnostic computer, i bought my car with these codes, new solenoids no change, in the end 2,000 miles latter it went to limp mode and my inlet bank2 cam sprocket had failed/broke up!

I am following live and the vanos stuck on 133 degrees, it moves from 133.1 to 133.6 etc, but does not follow the nominal position for 117 for example...
it does not lose power i think (nothing I could notice - mine is Supercharged) but still very weird. I already change vanos 1 to 2 and 2 to 1, and still error on bank 1. |

Have someone with the proper tools perform a VANOS system test. Probably a problem with it. If it's only moving .5 degrees while the other bank has more movement, that's indicative of a problem.
