M3 vs 2011 SLS AMG
Well I went to Cars and Coffee this morning and saw a Mercedes SLS AMG 63. Very pretty car with the gull wing doors. Anyhow I was heading home and was on the interstate. The guy with the SLS passes me and gets out in front and guns it a little. He slowed down next to me like he wanted to play or see if I would bite. I didn't bite but it left me wondering how the M3 would hold up. Any idea how bad a beat it would be? So far I'm straight stock for now and planning for some future mods.

NOT A RATS ASS CHANCE IN A CAT HOUSE, that SLS is a friggin' BEAST. By far the sexiest sounding stock exhaust on the planet.

Saw an SLS the other night. It was parking at the very end of the street corner in front of a club...it took him about 5 minutes to park it perfectly with the help of a valet boy. Making sure it wasn't too close/far to the curb and to the car in front of it.
Beautiful car, but I'm sure it is a major headache always having to worry about it in public places (or any other super car for that matter). |

It is only fair to mention other comparos where LFA won always. AutoZeitung Germany test, Lexus LFA decimated the SLS AMG in a comparison around contidrom test track by a full 2 seconds on only a 3800 meter track. They literally used to word "dominated like a formula race car" SLS AMG. In AutoBild supercomparo, LFA was faster than the SLS AMG around Nurburgring by 6 seconds (also much quicker than the Turbo S). That is what it truly is intended to be. Not a drag racer. In a straight line in AutoZeitung test, both LFA and SLS AMG were evenly matched with same 0-60 mph and both cars reached 125 mph in 11.3 seconds in their tests. Lexus LFA beat the V12 Ferrari 599 GTB with 620 HP in the CarAndDriver even in a straight line and also R8 V10 in drag races so it is no slouch by exotic supercar standards. Regarding this video, the SLS AMG used launch control while the only reason why Lexus LFA lost was because the early prototypes of Lexus LFA had no way of launching as launch control was not included in the Lexus LFA until production time came out and only a few months ago prototypes got launch control system. With new launch control in that Lexus LFA, it would have been completely different since LFA weighs over 200 lbs less. And this is the best video to showcase what LFA is all about. 9700 rpm and 1.5g lateral acceleration in corners on mere Potenza S001 tires without any fancy electronic torque-vectoring gizmos, 130 mph on the back straights with racing champions Justin Bell, Scott Pruett: Last edited by 330CIZHP; 03-06-2011 at 07:34 PM.. |

I'm not tryng to prove the SLS is superior to an LF-A because it isn't. It is, however, pretty damn quick and would absolutely destroy an M3.

I agree SLS AMG is a mid-to-low 11 second car that traps at 125 - 127 mph and M3 is 12.6 - 12.7 secs at about 112 - 114 mph so it is in a different league so comparing it to the M3 does not make much sense.

I'd take the SLS everyday over the LF-A. Not only is it a fraction of the price but it looks so much better and and it's Mercedes AMG, just saying I own a Lexus disgusts me. And Im pretty sure setting an order on an LF-A is impossible as all have been sold. And both are crazy fast, and I'd take a crazy fast Merc than a Lexus. Just my .05.

I'm not an LF-A fan but I would definitely prefer it to the SLS if money weren't a factor.

Not to turn this into a thread about the LFA, but regarding its looks, most pictures don't do justice to how it looks in real life (I have seen it):
