Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I'm getting really frustrated at my sales agent and wanted to know if it was normal before pursuing further action.

I ordered a e93 the last week of February and still do not have a production date. All I've been told is that it is schedule for month 5 but no specific date set. I'm from Canada so we do not have the BMW NA customer centre to view the progress or the 1-800 number.

If this is not normal to wait this long, where do I stand in getting my deposit back of a couple of grand?

Thank you for your time.

I ordered my E93 the last week of March and it is scheduled for delivery in the last week of april. But usually the timing or order to production depends on the production slots your dealer has. But good luck trying to get the deposit back. Dealers always, and I mean, always try to chicken out of refunding deposits. Hopefully you used your credit card to pay the deposit so you're always covered there.

But your wait isn't extraordinarily long, as I've seen some folks waiting even longer. It might be that the dealer you're using is a low volume M3 dealer and it's sort of affecting your car in getting slotted for production... I wish you hear good news soon!

Or just consider moving down south to the states! ;-)

You may want to get a Canadian perspective on this as the US process and production lead times may not be indicative of what to expect in Canada.

There a number of guys on the forum in Ontario that are affiliated with BMW dealers that may give you the best answers.

Best of luck.

I agree, 3-4 months is painful.

There is very little used inventory in Canada however, so it's either buy new, or import from the US or hold your breath for a used one to hit your local dealer.

Get in touch with BMW Canada if your dealership can't help you out. You should have more than a production month by now. But quite frankly, a Feb order and a May build isn't that out of line. It can be done sooner but it'll take some juggling by BMW Canada (if your dealer insists) to make it happen. Good luck.

Here's a West Coast Canadian perspective:
I ordered my E90 in early October 2010 for December production, for late January 2011 delivery. Ended up getting bumped up to November production and took delivery Dec 31st. So about 10-12 weeks from order to delivery.

Your wait seems a bit long - your dealer must have dropped the ball on your order. Or perhaps your dealer is a very limited E93 allocation? I would expect the 4 big dealers in the Lower Mainland have about similar E93 allocations. Which dealership are you getting screwed around with? Just PM me if I can help direct you somewhere else.

Thanks everyone for your response. I'm confused as to what to do at this point.

A) wait it out since I've waited this long
Or
B) cancel my order and go else where

Though decision

I'd be thoroughly pissed off by now at my CA and dealer, so I would cancel and re-order just based on the principle of the whole mess.

From another Canadian perspective: I ordered my E90 M3 on February 21st. Given the rumour mongering and mystery with the ultimate demise of the E90 M3, I too have been told a "Month 5" production estimate, which was bumped from April. My estimated delivery is now the end of June.

Much like you, I faced the dilemma of waiting vs. asking for my deposit back. I've decided to wait it out, since the car I've ordered is the one I want. Summer doesn't really arrive around these parts till June, and until then, I'll just keep my money in the bank!

Good luck with your wait.
Asif
PS-The two dealers here in Calgary have at least half a dozen new E93 M3s in stock between them.

I live in Toronto and ordered an E92 M3 here on February 14, 2011. I asked for ED in May and got a confirmation of my ED date on March 23. They have to have a build date to do that but I didn't ask about the date until a week or so later. My car was built this week (week 17 I was told).

I got the impression though that certain of the larger dealerships get some sort of preference on build dates or at least on the number of build dates per year. Someone also suggested to me that ED requests get some sort of prefereence on build dates. I have no idea if any this is true.

Hmm... Sounds like a great incentive for a quick weekend trip to Calgary for the OP!!! Hopefully one of those is optioned like he wants.

Maybe true... I ordered mine from the highest volume dealer in Canada. Maybe that helped bump my production up by a month? Maybe...

In line with my order. I ordered December 10th, and it took BMW Canada 5 weeks to confirm the ED date.
