Not much terror...there is no time to feel terror...I've been through a heavy crash and didn't have time to feel terror....fortunately escaped well and the terror was felt indeed afterwards.

Sad story, and even if the driver made a "mistake" by drinking and driving (absolutely no excuse), it was pretty stupid and now all of his friends and family have to pay for it.

Thank god he did not hit anyone else.

Very sad and shocking story. It is unfortunate that the end result cost someone their life. God bless his family and give them strength in these hard times.

Rip Daniel. This could happen to anyone, fast car + alcohol, a recipe for disaster. Its things like this that make me remember that if I drink or drive it could my BMW on Jalopnik and everybody searching through MY posts. It keeps one human, and hopefully serves as a message to all of us to not drink and drive as well as to exercise our cars on the track, not the street.

I am not an expert but I believe that toxicology reports take time. Just because he left a bar and drove fast doesn't necessarily mean he was intoxicated or even that he had been drinking. RIP. This really is horrible.

Just a reminder to all you gearheads out there. Please keep the speeding and your mario andretti nerve on the track and follow the rules on the streets. And the Cardinal Rule of Life: DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!!! I'm sure all of you feel closer to the news of what happened since we all have the same car and many of you have a JB one. That really can happen to any of us if we get too cocky or if we try to show of skills we think we have but really don't. So, to my fellow M3'ers, Drive safe and God bless you and Daniel Portela.

Very sad indeed. My prayers go out to his family RIP

You may recall late last year I lost a very good friend indeed as well. He lost control (his rear end slipped according to the fellow he overtook and he ended up around a tree) overtaking someone in his M3 and died shortly after. He was only 28.

I have expressed my opinions before on drunk driving, having lost a good friend to a drunk driver.

That being said, all that is overcoming right now is sadness. This should be a reminder, that whether you know them or not, if you see someone go leasve a bar you know has had more than one or two drinks, please, please, stop them. Save them. I don't care if they punch you, or hit you, just do whatever it takes to stop them.

Cheers,
e46e92

As unfortunate as this incident is, this is the sobering reality of drinking and driving. A sad lesson to all. Be smart and be safe.
