2008 E90 335i  [7.00]
Earlier tonight in San Jose on capitol ave: White LCI E90 M3 with 1M front and Slek lip, TE37sl's, exhaust, and BMW performance spoiler.

I was in the black E90. At the stoplight I tried to compliment you but I guess you didn't hear me.

hey guys, you probably all know me from the main forums. Anyways, on vacation here in SF again. Quick question, i noticed some cars have that Emission bumper sticker on the rear bumper, what is that about? I even saw it on someone's M3. Do I have to put it on?

btw, there's a good chance I'm moving here in a few months.

Those are used by Hybrids and Electric cars usually, and if I remember correctly they can use the carpool lanes without paying or without 3 person per car rule.

I'm am positive the M3 you saw with the sticker isn't suppose to have one and you definitely don't have to put one on nor will we ever get one of those stickers.

Btw, my name is Eric and I am new here. I came from a E90 335i and I just picked up my slightly used 2009 M3 last week. Looking forward to meeting some new people in the future and here's a few pic's as a welcome gift.

Yeah, some districts in San Francisco require parking stickers in order to park on the street longer than the parking time limit in that area (to park overnight or longer than the 2 hour limit in some areas). To apply, you have to show proof of residence.

Thanks!

Yeah, those are the sfmta parking permits for sure. Every district has their own unique color. I hope you'll have a garage when you do move here.

i will have a garage, debating on whether I still want to buy a resident parking permit and looking into some temp mounting options when I need it.

thanks for the reply.

Also, what's the level of active enforcement for front plates? Are (SFPD) police stopping cars for ONLY front plate violations? Or do police cite you after they stop you for other moving violations? Or is it mostly meter maids who look for your parked car with no front plates?

overall does the level of enforcement force most of you guys to put a plate on?

That's great!

I have seen people stick them on their rear windshield but some of those metermaids do not care and will still ticket you. I would be wary parking in the streets especially if you don't have front plates. In SF the MTA have the right to cite you for no front plates when parked.

The only SFPD you need to be afraid is those guys on the motorcycle. They're usually the only ones out looking for people without front plates, modifications, tint windows etc.

thanks for the tips, so I guess I have to watch out fo SFMTA, problem is, I likely will drive and park around the city often, so I will have to break out my front plate mount. I have the tow hook mount. I noticed some M3s even mount theirs on their lower grill (obstructing airflow) smh...

SF just hired 60-80 new DPT ticket-givers. They are giving no front plate tickets all day long. SFPD doesn't seem to care much about front plate/tint. It's when you hit the surrounding areas (daly city, millbrae, etc) that it gets ridiculous.

well, my decision is made, mounting the tow hook bracket when I arrive. Will they hit cars with out-of-state plates? Obviously it takes some time (and I'm allowed a grace peroid) to get my CA plates.

If you park on the street a lot in crowded or hilly neighborhoods, there's a good chance your bumpers will get dinged. Most people aren't as careful with their cars, and won't hesitate bump the car in front or behind. Not sure exactly what your plans are, but something to keep in mind.

no different here in DC Metro area, though not as bad like as NYC. I will be babying this car in SF. Rarely any street parking, if street parking, then at metered spots, will pay to park in garages where available. Overnight parking in home's garage. Thanks for the tip though.

They come with Hankook ventus v12 with 235/35/19 fronts and 265/30/19 rears with about 75% tread remaining.

I used them before and they are good except this was on a different car but it shouldn't make any differences.

Awesome - thanks for the reply. The $80 bucks they charge seems like a good deal. Is there a forum discount that i can ask for? :-)
