2011.75 e90 sanity check!

Gents...

A long time lurker here who is about to pull the trigger and was seeking some pricing thoughts. Have found a loaded comp package (74k) August 2011 build that has nearly three years of warranty left. The seller wants $52,750. The downsides of the car is that it has 25,000+ miles and the tires are somewhat worn (60% left in front, 40% back). Mileage isn't a huge deal as I am much more likely to bump up against the warrant time limit.

I have been looking for a couple of months and the market is very difficult to read. Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated!

I'd go for it, if the car checks out from a private inspection! E90 M is one of the nicest cars BMW has ever made. GL

I also agree on a private inspection - if it checks out then go for it. Keep in mind you will need new tires soon.

The E90 M3 is a Fantastic Dual Purpose vehicle. I've owned 2 so you could say I'm biased. Only vehicle I've owned where you can go out to dinner with your Wife and other Couple and the next day load up your 4 track tires/rims (fold down rear seat option) and take to the Track.

Good luck!

I somehow forgot to mention one major concern. Because of the high driving mileage the "1,200 mile service," which occurred in less than 3 months took place at 6,000 miles!!! Is this service calculated at 1200 miles or the earlier of some time frame, i.e. 3 months or 1200 miles?

EEEks... How much of a concern should this be?

Call the service dept at BMW to verify. I've heard different things such as voiding warranty etc.

I have called my service adviser (currently have a 330i and X5) and he said that all service is up to date and that the service history looks fine.

There are so many threads regarding the 1200 mile service that it raises a legitimate question mark.....I just have never seen a definitive comment whether it is either a time or distance based determination and the impact of failing to obtain.

I guess nothing is easy when it comes to BMWs!!!!!

Good price if the car checks out, one of the last E90s built. If the rest of the service history checks out I wouldn't worry too much about the lag for the break in service. Have you met/spoken to the seller?

well.. I put 1200 miles in the 3 days I spent driving from SC to TX after PCD and got the service done the following week, so it should definitely be distance based, not time

Conti tires are fine. Not as good as Michelin PSS though. 6000 miles seems strange for a break-in service. I got mine done in Germany after a week of driving. If everything checks out, go for it.

I had the S-02 and S-04 on my S2000 and I was far from impressed. Even the RE-970AS has turned out to be a better tire, at least for the S2000.

I'd say that for street it is Pilot SuperSport of bust.

+1. Look at KBB, Edmunds, and NADA for valuation. Getting an Edmunds TMV (true market value) is a pretty good place to start.

i've come across very few e90s where the seller/dealer is willing to part with it for the KBB or Edmunds value.....almost always a premium.

Not sure if it is a huge concern, but it's a concern. During the first 1K miles you will get bits of metal shavings in the engine, diff and tranny. The longer those fragments are floating in the driveline fluids the more risk there is that something could go wrong later. I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. It may also hurt resale because a buyer looking at the maintenance records will likely have the same concerns. If you plan on trading it in, it probably won't matter.

I am not saying that is what you are going to pay, but those resources provide some baseline value. If you find a meticulously maintained car, sure you are going to probably pay a premium for that, but I think it would be worth it in terms of reliability and overall driving experience. These websites provide a starting point and something you can point to when negotiating.

not true; if you ever have a major eng issue thats going to cost BMW a lot of money (warranty), they will blame it on that 1200 mile service in a heartbeat... and stick you with the bill. Seen it happen.

Barring any unforeseen issues i'll be keeping this car for a while! I clearly see where the 1200 mile service was performed three months after the car was place in service.......just that it was at 6k miles! I guess the only good thing is that those were probably highway miles where the car was running at temp for sustained periods as opposed to lots of 2 and 3 mile trips!
