I would take it to an indy shop and see if they can repair it without fender replacement.

OP - if you haven't filed a police report, do so if you plan on addressing this with insurance.

Geeze, and I was pissed at the jerk who put the corner of their SUV door into the passenger side door on my e90 then apparently promptly left. Why people can't take responsibility for their actions is beyond me.
Sorry for your experience. That's awful. |

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that someone hit it, but there's no visible damage. So that tells me it's a 30 minute $5 fix and just missing a screw or two. Just remove the wheel, loosen the fender liner and replace the 1 or 2 screws that hold the bumper on which fell out.

Bumper to fender bracket is all you need
No no no.
There is a replaceable plastic bracket that goes up inside the front fender, and 2 small screws behind the fender liner screw the bumper into the bracket in the fender. 2k is absolute stupidity here |

Are you thinking about 6/7 here: http://www.getbmwparts.com/parts/201...iagram=1946011
Or possibly 3 or 4 on this one? http://www.getbmwparts.com/parts/201...iagram=1946105

Those pics are pretty blurry (could just be my phone), but is there any paint damage? I am thinking those brackets just vibrated themselves lose and you caught it after coming back to your car.
Unless the whole bumper/fender tab is cracked, then you should be able to replace the brackets if something fell off. Wish I was around to help, I've taken my bumper off about 10 times the last year. Lol

Honestly, I see no damage lol. I think it just rattled itself loose, tbh.

like i said before - you will need a new fender. the bracket is integrated into the fender and it looks like it has broken off. there is an additional black bracket (part #6 above) which slides on top of it so you can thread the screws from the bumper into the fender. part #7 above is a metal bracket which connects to the bumper prior to mounting.
below is a picture of the integrated bracket which has snapped off the fender (found the pic off ebay):

You could always do this mod?
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1199292 All joking aside, I don't think superglue will work but a body shop might be able to urethane/epoxy it back together and add fiberglass or something behind to strengthen the structure. Tough call...

Most body technicians would use a urethane plastic welder to reattach the tab to the fender. The repair would be done to the under side of the fender so no painting required. Google "plastic welder" for videos and description. SEM also has a two part urethane repair, but the welder is easier.
There will still be labor charges for R/R and weld repair. Try to locate an independent body shop with ICAR plastic repair certification. Many shops will try to sell you on the new fender with paint match. |

Yep, Many years ago I had the plastic brackets which were part of the bumper cover for my mazdaspeed6 crack during a collision. They billed my insurance company for a new bumper cover and then I later discovered (after another collision) that they simply did the repair you talking about here then resprayed the bumper |

Car parking spaces are a lot smaller in the UK compared to America. I always dread someone swinging their door open and denting the car. Someone managed to go one better. This is what someone did to my car pulling out of the parking space next to me. When I parked the car there was a new 4 wheel SUV that has reversed into the parking space. When they pulled out they obviously turned too sharply. It must have damaged their car badly as well, but they drove off. No witnesses and no way to track the car.
Edit, and believe it or not I was parked dead centre of the parking bay. |
