No problem just trying to help a fellow M3 owner and thanks for the comment on my M3
This was a long time ago when I had this done I do not remember how much this would have cost I can tell you not cheap.

Yes.
Insist they replace every valve spring in the car. A valve spring failure this early in the cars life is completely unacceptable. They owe you that much for your own peace of mind. And they know it. Call BMWNA if you encounter resistance. Be steadfast. Good luck |

Manufacturing flaws are inevitable. Non-destructive inspection techniques are never 100% effective. The result, rare instances of failure. As it is unlikely that all valve springs in your motor are from the exact same manufacturing lot, replacing them all is a waste of time and money. Not to mention, you want as little human interaction with your engine internals as possible as the more human interaction, the more potential for error. Let them fix the broken spring and be thankful your valve didn't drop into the motor. |

Don't worry OP, it is not that big of a deal...... It happens to all kinds of cars not just M3's. Your car will be fine once they fix it!

The way I look at, this failure blew a big hole, not only in your confidence in the car, but also in the re-sale value of your car. You lost value in your car because it is now not competitive with the re-sale value of similar cars with "a clean carfax." Try selling it to a potential buyer (who will find out about it) with the argument: "hey, no big deal, it happens all the time. It's only a batch defect and all my other valve springs weren't in the batch"
You're going to have to give up $$$$$ to make a sale anytime soon. That's whats been taken from you with this failure. What you need to do, in my judgement, is have it repaired in way that satisfies any near term buyer and, at the same time, restores your trust in the car. It's likely to be a moderately difficult endeavor but, if your convincing enough, you're bound to win. |

1) And how would the next buyer find out about it? My car came with 4 lines on the Carfax report. 2) It seems to me like the guys that had this issue before only had the one that was broken replaced, and that seemed to work just fine. 3) Why replace something that isn't broken? The car still has plenty of warranty left OP, just enjoy it when you get it back.

Thanks for that buddy, very helpful. If it happened to me, not sure if I'd be able to pull a DIY on this one. Fingers crossed it doesn't

Reving the motor high cold is also bad for a number of other reasons. This is why our software has the cold start rev limit reduction, to make sure that it never sees high RPM when too cold.

Thanks to everyone for all your comments/input - I appreciate all the advice. I am leasing my car so not overly concerned about resale value. My intention in 3 years when my lease is up is to get into an M4 or possibly an M5. I will keep you all updated on the progress of my repair....hopefully the replacement valve spring will arrive sooner rather than later.

If I had a such an early valve spring failure I would expect all the valve springs to be replaced as a precaution. I'm surprised it wasn't done as standard procedure.
