Exclamation Broken Valve Spring @ 2,700 Miles

This past weekend after less than 4 months and about 2,700 miles, my 2013 E92 suddenly threw an Engine Malfuntion and Increased Emissions warning. I immediately brought it to my local dealer and today my SA informed me that I have a broken valve spring on cylinder #8. Evidently the part is on back-order so I'm facing at least a week of waiting and driving a loaner (I was fortunate to get a brand new 528i). Any thoughts and/or advice? Up until this weekend, I have been ecstatic with the car.

I don't think breaking-in could have been a result of of this...lol

Most lemon laws require multiple failures of the same part. It was never in effect in this situation.

Yes, multiple failures or more than 30 days out of service because of the repair...still TBD at this point.

Talking Good luck with your M3

I had the #7 Valve Spring break on my M3 but it was at 40,000+ miles and was covered under warranty as well. I have 88,000+ miles on my M3 now no other problems since then so you should be good once your car is fixed

What's the bill for this fix? I'm aware most ppl are getting this fixed under warranty, but they usually quote you billable hours and price for their billing purposes to BMW corporate.

likely not a break-in effect. This is the 2nd most common issue with our M3s.

on my e46 2002 (my very first m3) driver side rear spring broke in 2010 (after some 60K + KM approx. 37K miles). The new owner one year later had to replace the passenger side rear spring. This is the first time I see a spring brake here on this e9x forum.

I venture to guess it may be a manufacturing flaw (this can be established by the dealership - or some knowledgeable individual that has access to [NDT] Non-Destructive Testing). However, it might also be due to road conditions, springs can take a lot of abuse, then they also have a braking point.

Wow ... My bad ... do ignore this cleaning my glasses ...

Valve spring in the engine, not the suspension

I had the same issue at ~58k miles, broken valve spring. Replaced it under warranty BUT took 4 weeks to get the part from Germany. Meanwhile, I was enjoying the loaner

At 58k huh? So I'm assuming SES? What codes did it throw? Any idea how much work it was to replace?
