Album Art Prerequistes
When reading from a USB drive using a normal file system what are the prereqs for Album art to display. It seems to be random for me. For example, I have one artist folder the displays Album art yet another one doesn't. Both folders have a large and small jpg file of the album. All of the files are MP3's.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Interesting. Is it the physical size of the file or pixel size of the image?

Playing around with it today. It seems that if I let the Windows Media Player build out the mp3 tags & album art it works with my USB flash drive. If I let iTunes build out it does not work.

I had a fairly high resolution (1600x1200) file that was several megabytes that would not display. I kept the resolution the same but downgraded the quality so the file was around 1 MB and it then would display even with the same resolution...I couldn't actually see a difference in the quality. |

iTunes doesn't store the Album Art inside of the files, it has it's own database that the files are linked to (this is in the case that you downloaded the album art using iTunes) if you copy and paste the art into iTunes then it will add the art to the file itself. A smart way to save space but at the same time it causes a lot of problems with displaying artwork.

If you use Mac, you can put a script like this: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/script...reembedartwork your iTunes scripts directory. Then you can select a bunch of songs, and then go to Scripts menu and it will embed all downloaded artwork.

1. If you download music from the iTunes store itself, the track (file) includes embedded artwork. 2. If you drag and drop artwork into the track using iTunes, then the artwork will be embedded into the track (file). 3. If you use the "get album artwork" feature in iTunes, then as odd as it sounds, iTunes will store the artwork separately .. and not embed the artwork in the track (file). You can manually fix this issue, by dragging the artwork from the artwork viewer to the desktop. Then deleting the artwork from the track, and then dragging it back again as (2) above ... or use the script suggested above. Its just a weird quirk of iTunes. |

Ok, I worked through the Doug's script and got it to work, but it still isn't coming up in the car. Not sure what I'm doing wrong if anything.

It might be because I'm using an actual ipod in the car. When I go through finder and find the songs, the album art is there.
Edit: scratch that....it's because I have been using the Y-cable and not a regular Ipod cable. Works like a charm now!

I have found that album art works if you're plugged in via USB (e.g., usb stick in the armrest) but it does NOT work for the same stick plugged into the glovebox and uploaded.
Can anyone else confirm this? Either that, or I've toggled it off somehow and have no clue how to re-enable it. And yes all of my art is embedded in the tags.
