what about the exhaust manifolds? do they have built in cats?

from what i gather on the diagrams

manifolds>primary cats>secondary cats>x pipe>axle back?

are those resonators on the x pipe?

There are 2 sets of cats in the entire system (both pictured in the diagrams).

For the headers, the RD Sport motor build thread should have some good info: link. If I remember correctly, there were some good picture comparisons between the RD Sport "shorty" headers and stock headers. It's a long thread, but you should find it a good read.

Correct on the resonators, they come after the x-pipe in the 2nd diagram.

Hold on, boys. Went to the SEMA show in Vegas, and guess what? Remus has their Titaniums coming. Calling 'em "Titanium2" - got the brochure. They had a full system cat back on display there for a VW GTI something, and it was beautiful. They said their list of units that'll be coming isn't done yet, but E92 M3 was definitely going to be on it. Their pipe bends were actual bends not a bunch of welded sections like one of their competitor's. That VW system was only 21.5 Lbs. according to the guy I spoke to there. Said their own system for a similar VW in S/S, is near 48 Lbs and stock was somewhere near 60 Lbs..! They're also shot peaning the entire outside surface. The tips are pretty cool as well. They weren't too sure when they'd be getting here, but the guy thought in time for next season, they're thinking March / April. But he couldn't promise anything. When I finally get my E92, this is probably gonna be the hot set up, for me anyway. It's on their home page too, at: www.remususa.com

Hi, i need to say that this forum is the best in the world. I was looking and comparing exhaust on youtube, and then i found his thread.

i come from Slovenia - Europe, the Akrapovič country, and the Akrapovič is 5500€ so i cant afford this, and it doesnt sounds as great as meisterschaft gt2 and others.

Im selecting between Eisenman race, meisterschaft gt2 and gintani race.
So i have a few questions. What is with the meisterschaft, it has the best sound but no one has it on m3. ( is it realy from Korea)
Gintani does he have shipment to Europe, or can i buy it in europe so i dont have taxes. Is it posible to get 83mm slip ( did i get that right)

Eisenman is is 5 hours from my contry, so here is no problem.

what would u choose? i can spend around 2000€ / 3000 dolars
plz help,

thx

Exhaust systems have the worst performance to cost ratio

I can tell by the number of systems available that there must be a bunch of people buying these aftermarket exhaust systems, but if you look at the numbers you can see that the gains are minute and the costs very high. And remember that even the tiny performance gains claimed by the manufacturers of these systems are highly dubious. It is unlikely that any exhaust system will realize a consistently statistically significant performance gain over the stock system. In the old days, when exhaust systems were nothing more then a cast iron manifold that conveniently connected all the exhaust ports to the rest of an exhaust system who's only job was to make the car quite, one could see substantial (maybe 5-10%) gains from an aftermarket exhaust headers and muffler system. Today, and especially on the new M3 there simply isn't much that can be done to improve the system in ways that help engine performance. Some of these exhaust systems will be much louder then the stock system, and if that is important to you then you will be happy. Many people make a psychological connection between noise and power, and for those people the noise can really improve the whole driving experience, even to the point of making them think they are going faster, and those people will believe a really loud exhaust must be faster.

There is one way in which some of these exhaust systems are really better then the stock system, and that is weight. The Akropovic complete system is something like 50 Lbs lighter then stock (not sure about the number, I know it depends on whether you get only the mufflers or the compete headers and mufflers and catalyst. Though even 50 lbs. on a 3600- 3700 lb. car won't make much of a difference (remember it's not unsprung weight), 50 lbs is 50 lbs. Now losing 50 lbs. of unsprung weight, by using lightweight wheels, brakes, springs, roll bars, shocks etc., that would be worth some dough. Losing 50 lbs of rotating mass due to lightweight wheels, rotors, drive shafts, etc. that would improve road holding and acceleration much much more then a $6,000 exhaust system.

The only other mod that is commonly done that has a similarly insignificant effect on performance is... cold air intake. Virtually every car made in decades has had a highly effective, low restriction, cold air intake. The M3 has a very good one, so much so that I would be surprised if the best aftermarket one sold was worth 2 HP over stock, and I suspect that many of them are worse then stock. Cold air intakes used to be extremely important when stock systems pulled air directly into the engine from the engine compartment. In those days one could see perhaps, 5-10% when going from a stock air intake to a well designed cold air intake, but no car manufacturer has built a car that way in a very very long time.

All very true. For me, the $3k or so was worth it for sound and appearance alone.
