Front rubbing on 20" VR G2s and eibach prokit

Just wanted to ask the others on 20"s and springs if you ever rubbed in the front once the springs have settled? i've been on my G2s for almost 3 months now and about the same time on my eibach prokit. Never had a problem rubbing until 2 weeks ago. I stepped out to try and figure out where the smell was coming from and found out that it's from the front wheel well. It seems that my springs got a bit lower in the past month as I was only rubbing on full lock before. Now, even on half turns, i rub on both the plastic bumper liner and the rear of the fender liner. Is there a way around this, any mod I can do to eliminate my tire from scraping? I was also considerring getting a thinner tire. I'm currently on 255/30/20, how much thinner can I go before it gets way too dangerous for daily driving? As always, I appreciate the input guys.

Most M3 I see with 20"s run 245/30/20 for that reason. The 255's rub when turning on a lowered car. I was going to get 255/30/20 in the front for my 335, but I was advised not to because of rubbing when I turn. I'm lowered on H&R sport springs/Koni FSDs. I went with 245/30/20 in front and it just barely clears with out rubbing at full lock. I also have 12mm spacers in the front.

Maybe you should go to 245/30/20 to avoid any rubbing issues. You have wider fenders than I do and mine doesn't rub.

As for it being dangerous, 245/30/20 I think is fine. You always run the risk of damaging your wheel when going with 20's and a thin tire. You always have to be careful with bigger wheels and a thin tire. It just comes with the territory. You can't have it all.

I had 255/35/19 INVO's w/ H&R springs (lower than eibach) rub only on full lock, and only when I turn left.

Go 245/30/20, it will for sure not rub.

Thumbs up I think you should go 245/30/20 as well

I notice a few people with 255/30/20 on the front of their car having rubbing issue. I wanted to go with a 255/30/20 on my M3 until I found out the same problem you are having. So I stayed with 245/30/20 and I am lowered on H&R sport. I guess you can say in this case smaller is better

What brand / model tires do you have? I have the same setup (20" G2's and Eibach springs) without any rubbing. I am running 255/30 P-Zero Nero's. I would hate going to 245's; 255's are low-profile enough...

255 is the width of the tire. The second number is the profile. A 255/30 is the same profile as a 245/30. Its just 10mm narrower thus the rubbing or not rubbing

I think he knew that. Tire model does make a difference even comparing the same sizes. Some brands have a more squared shoulder while others are more rounded which sometimes allows you to run a wider tire without rubbing. Hence why some people are saying they don't rub with Nitto Invos which are known to have a rounded shoulder while something like a P-Zero or Advan Sport would be more squared and cause rubbing.

Saw that there's a small bump in the right rear fender wall which is closest to the front passenger door. That's what the tire is hitting on full left turns.

I really love this setup and the ride is smooth, except when taking those sharp turns. I was already debating on putting my stock 19s back on since I don't want to be running the risk of a blow out.

Honestly, since I only take those sharp turns at low speeds, and that burning smell is just rubber on plastic, I'll just stay with it a little while longer. Maybe go 245 after the tires are done but even with the rubbing, they roughly have the same wear as the rears. I'm just glad that it DOESN'T rub in the rear thank God.

You are not exactly right. The tire profile is a ratio. A 255/30 has a profile equal to 30% of 255 mm. A 245/30 has a profile equal to 30% of 245 mm thus the lower profile.

My setup.. I dont seem to have a problem with rubbing at all.

Same Eibach Springs as yours

HRE 590R 20x9 Fronts - 20x11 Rears
Tires Nitto Invo 255-30-20 Fronts -
305- 25-20 Rears

No rubbing at all..

I'm also thinking of doing 20" HRE and was hoping to do 255/30 and 285/30 but it seems like 245/30 in the front is the safer bet. Especially since I do not care for the Invos.

What tyres other than Tires Nitto Invo work?

Looks like someone else in this thread is running P Zero Neros but that's the only other one I've ever heard of that worked on a lowered car.

Supposedly Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position tires work as well according to this thread, but I have not seen any user reviews or success stories on this. Yokohama Advan Sports supposedly work as well.

It appears that most people use Invos if they want the 255/30/20 and 285/30/20. I put together a list of various setups here if anyone is interested in taking a look:

Unfortunately, there's only one sure way to find out. Just try it and see what happens. What tires did you buy. I'm going with the same setup and went with Vredestein tires. I haven't installed them yet but from what I've read so far, Vreds run slightly narrower than PS2s and Advans and the shoulder is more rounded off rather than square like the Advans. Those two facts lead me to believe that the Vreds should be fine.
