Chicago M3 E92 owner - With MPE/Akra/ESS

I have an E92 2013 and I am a bit undecided on what muffler I should get for a more interesting sound.

I am between Dinan, MPE, Akra Slip on and ESS.

I want a throtier/bassy sound but that doesnt sound like just ressonance from the helmholtz chambers, i want it to sound the true V8 that it is.

That is why Id like to ask if someone has one of those installed and could let me listen to it it would be really helpful.

I like the Akra a lot, but since my car is on warranty still it would be better if I could just put an MPE there, but I dont want to spend 3500 bucks and have little difference between original and that one.

I couldnt tell just form youtube videos, its just impossible to hear the tones through those crappy cam mics.

Thanks

What do you mean? That by having a bunch of dealerships nearby my warranty should be ok?

I dont think ill ever have a warranty issue with that car, Ive had cars that I put aftermarket exhausts on and it was fine..

Im just thinking in terms of peace of mind, if the MPE and Akrapovic are pretty similar Id go with the OEM one just so I dont have to worry about it.

Did you say meat? Where is the big Chicago meet? And when. I keep trying to get to one but I'm always too busy. I like the ESS exhaust and the IND guys are great.

It might be over reaction on my side, I just think that dealers will try to screw you whenever they can, so if I go there with a brake warranty and I have Akra on they would use it as an excuse.. But if that is not the case, I am leaning towards akra anyways haha

I have the Dinan Axle Back with the Challenge Street X Pipe and I think the sound is great. No CELs and Laurel gives me no issues with warranty work. In fact the SA and Techs enjoy talking about the car when it's in as the majority of owners leave their car stock.

If you'd like to hear it I'm in Bucktown.

I have Eisenmann Sport only on my car currently.

However my Challenge Sport (HFC) Xpipe might be back on for the meet.

For me its the perfect combo and I do daily drive my car.

Patrick BMW doesnt care about my setup at all.

Info on the next meet. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=829556

Jesal, thanks for the input! I'm researching getting a new midpipe for the gains, do you find the challenge street or sport is better in terms of maximizing gains while limiting the smell/rasp/drone for a daily driver? Is the street harder to install? I wonder as its so much cheaper.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

The challenge sport you will need to cut your stock cats and either weld them or clamp them onto the challenge pipes. I ran those for a bit, sound was very nice, but got to the point where I wanted louder. The most power you gain is from removing the primary cats. I ran Challenge Race+ (straight pipe) and that was too crazy, now I am running no cats and resonators and I have no issue with the fumes (i might be use to it and not going to lie.. kinda like it lol)

Cool thanks for the input! I thought the street needed to be cut/welded? Can't understand why the sport is almost 2k then o.O

The Challenge Sport bolts right on, no welding or cutting needed as it replaces your stock cats with high flow cats, which are not cheap.

The Challenge Street you have to cut and clamp the xpipe on as it will retain the stock cats.

I had no issues with the challenge sport with HFC on my daily driver. Only time it would be a bit raspy is when you romp on the pedal. Otherwise during typical street use you wont even hear much of it.

Cool thanks a lot guys, now I need to figure out if test pipes or the challenge sport xpipes would be better. Apparently test pipes are really cheap & have big gains but involve cutting, not sure I want to do that :S
