Craigy is right,

E92s are becoming much more affordable, early production models in the low 30s. Once the F80 comes out it will drop a bit more. A new loaded Accord Coupe will cost more than a used M3.
The E92 will become what the E46 became when the e92 was introduced. You will see a increase of younger enthusiasts driving them. Same will go for the F80 once its time passes.

To be fair a loaded accord is getting pretty pricey these days.

But yeah cost of entry into these cars is easily 1/2 of original MSRP for the ones with a lot of options. Hell one guy told me he was shopping e92 m3's in the high 20's, but he was looking at real high mileage stuff.

I think the depreciation curve will flatten out a bit but you're right they'll still go down like anything else, but probably not as bad as those SMG E46's.

I hope my E90 doesn't depreciate too quickly. And wife bought it for me. Late 20's and we already bought a house.

I'm not sure I can agree with this.

Although, as someone who owned an SMG ... maybe I'm just playing for the other team.

Ha! At first I read "praying"...

The DCT doesn't get nearly the hate that the SMG got, but as miles creep up, I'm guessing many buyers won't be interested in owning such a complex transmission out of warranty, but who knows?

My 6MT E90 is one of just 3135 in North America, so I'm hoping that helps my long-term value (even though I'm thinking I may never sell it at this point).

Awesome job and no kids I think is the key.

But I certainly owe a debt of gratitude to my parents, they helped with my schooling and that has made all the difference.

Got it pre owned(or as I call it pre-loved) but it costs about the same as the wife's Audi Q5 so it isn't "out of this world" expensive. I'm 29 and am self employed with a kid(another one on the way!) and a house.

I'm a lawyer, so I guess I'm the exception.
In my industry, if your willing to travel and be on the road a lot, making $200-300k a year is pretty easy. With the right education, you can do it without travel, but it's more rare.

I was initially shopping nice E46's and was only considering a stick shift due to the overwhelming impression I got that the SMG was a ticking time bomb.

When I started shopping for the E92 I only wanted a DCT.

I found pretty quick that if your too picky its hard to find what you want or the cost is too high. I quickly shortened my must have list when I bought my e46 for track use. Couldn't find a sunroof delete so figured I would do it later if needed and color wasn't what I wanted either but it was fairly cheap and jumped on it.

And then I sold it to another SMG fanatic. Or was he an SMG M3fer.

It's funny how the SMG hate never dies.

I'll be the first to admit that it was not an awesome transmission 90% of the time.
