Have had the ZHP knob, and obviously the stock one.

The difference between the ZHP and the stock M3 knob is too minimal to warrant the change, especially since you can't just change the knob and much change the boot.

I got the zhp knob on my e46 m3, it was night and day difference compare to the oem one. For the boot, I got a alcantara boot from leatherz, but it still use the stock mount though.
o well, at least there is no need to cut the oem boot.

Interesting that you say that since the responders above you believe there is a wide difference between the two.

I understand. I have had the ZHP knobs in my 335's, in my E30 and loved it.

As for my M3, tried it in there too for fun and it wasn't a large enough difference to warrant the change for me.

Of course, this is all subjective on my part. I would personally want an alcantara steering wheel with a full one piece alcantara shift knob like OEM.

heres mine... the bmw performance is a NIGHT AND DAY difference compare to the stock ... the bmw performance sits almost 2 inch lower than stock.

with ZHP vs BMW performance its close to 1 inch difference and yes you still can feel the difference.

Looks clean. I just don't care for the look of the performance one.

Nice interior!

I dig the Performance knob, still an option in my book. Only thing that appeals about the ZHP is that it's "Weighted" which to me gives the impression it' feels better going through gears.

I want to as well do Alcantara boot while having SS and new shift knob installed. Any recommendations? I know Leatherz was mentioned, or how about IND's?

Performance alcantara steering wheel in the works eventually as well, but first things first; shifter!

I bought the BMW Performance E90 Alcantara Shifter Boot (which does not fit the e9xm3) and peeled off the plastic frame from both the OE one and Perf one. Then hot glued the OE ring to the Perf boot and been happy since. It has the white BMW Perf Stitching, which use to match my PSW.

If they sold a ready made kit, I'd switch to the ZHP. I've seen the DIY's and although they look easy enough, I don't trust myself enough with a dremmel to not ruin things.

I bought my "lightened" ZHP knob from LeatherZ and ordered my leather shift boot from Redline goods. Way better feel than the stock shift knob and I even changed my mind about mounting the short shifter after getting this mod done.

Your the second person I've heard say that. Got me thinking to just change the shift knob for now, feel it out for a little bit. Then go with the SS kit if I'm not 100% satisfied.

Looks like LeatherZ is selling the illuminated ZHP Shift knob for $200 now...that sound right?

Depends on which lighted design you want though. They want $115 additional just for it to look like our stock one. $290 for a shift knob is a lot I think. (Although I'll prob end up getting one myself at some point).

Thumbs up Here is my shift knob

There is nothing really special about my shift knob other than it is Chrome knob and it is illuminated plus I have a AA short shift kit installed to it I like it better than the OEM

Here you go.

It's pricey but it ended up being cheaper than installing the short shifter kit. I didn't like the LeatherZ shift boot so either get IND to make you one or order the Redline goods that I have.

Could you tell what kind of boot and color you got from Redline? It seems like it's Genuine Alcantara black with M-stitching version 5. I would like to get a similar one but not sure what type and color would look close to the original one. Thanks.

ZHP all day all night , could not see myself going back to the stock knob. the throws in the stock knob felt rubbery and indirect.

Radiognome, I got the their regular Black leather shift boot and e-brake boot with the M stitching. At the time I took this photograph, I had not installed the brake boot.
