Common issues with e92 6MT 2008+ ??

Hi guys, my friend is looking to buy a E92 6MT M3 from 2008 or later. Can anyone please tell me if there are any issues that are common or have persisted with these cars that I should tell him to inquire about? I did search this forum but didn't come across anything that seemed to be a common issue. could be that I'm not searching the right terms, so apologies if that is the case

what I'm thinking of in terms of common problems are things like rear subframe cracking in the E46 M3, HPFP failures with 335i, exploding sunroofs in E9x, etc.

Have there been any issues like the ones I listed, or have there been any recalls that he should inquire about to make sure that the recall work was performed? I did read a lot of threads talking about DCT failures, but my friend only wants a MT car so not worried about the DCT stuff

thanks in advance

Idle control valve and throttle actuators seem to be the most common problems. There have been a few incidents of bad bearings as well. Seems to be fairly reliable other than that.

i've seen a few posts on stuck valves and various vanos related issues in addition to the idle air control valve issue.

There's a SIB on rear diff noise, which is easily solved with a different fluid. There's also posts regarding broken diff bolt.

This car is mainly reliable. I can't find that report, but someone posted on the here once on a initial quality survey drilled down by model specific, and the M3 is the highest quality product manufactured by BMW.

My throttle actuators had to be replaced 6-7 months ago. That was my only issue with my 2008 6MT M3.

not true!

also why don't you just let people answer him what he ask for, a lot easier to ask for something then to search every where but the right place!

i came across exploding sunroof threads after I bought my E90 and have never opened my sunroof since then. one day my wife says "it's a nice day, let's open the sunroof" and I was like "NOOOOO"

it's a crazy issue though. BMW said it was due to a rock hitting the sunroof but then a local TV station in socal did an investigation with some university professor who said it would go against the laws of physics for a rock thrown by a car in front of you to hit the sunroof with force at a downward angle. and the pics from people with the exploding sunroofs clearly show that the sunroof is exploding upward. so yea, I never use the sunroof and pray that it doesnt happen

My wife's E92 made in October 2011 with less than 3000 miles on it is getting its throttle actuator valves replaced right now. Unbelievable that BMW does not recall the cars based on the number of reports on this specific problem.

Definitely one of the most common issue for the current M3s.

ive never heard about the exploding sunroof issue. i have one and have never given that a thought. should i worry about spontaneous combustion of my passengers as well. i might win the lottery first.

While this problem is somewhat common problem since the V10 came out, it's nowhere near big enough of an issue for it to be a recall. This is nothing like the HFPF or subframe crack. I had a throttle actuator go out as well, but I fixed it myself. Really not that bad.

Overall, this car has been by far one of the best/most reliable M car in a while! That's what convinced me to pull the trigger, without any warranty at that.
