i just ordered a red one about a month ago with moonroof. i like both the carbon fiber and the moon roof. personally i would have gotten with a carbon fiber but i was like "ehh who cares its just a roof" i thought to myself that few days out of the week i would like to open the moonroof and not have just a plane top. previously i had the e93 335 and i liked to have the top down few days out of the week. when the top was up i didnt like the look of just the long dark cloth on top of me without an opening. thats why i went with the moonroof. and hey the moonroof still looks awesome on the m3, its not like its hideous.
so if you think that you will use the moonroof every once in a while, get it. if your never gonna use it, get the car you want with the carbon roof. they both look great with or without it. and about the center of gravity thing, its stupid lol, no one will ever tell the difference just get the car you the way you want. good luck on your purchase! |

I had to order mine with a moonroof, I live by the beach and love my moonroof. One of the reasons why I didn't get a Mustang 5.0L, among others, but definitely want a moonroof. If you could care less about it either way and its the car your are looking for I say go for it.

wouldn't have been able to fit my new bumper in the car tonight if it wasn't for the moonroof

I enjoyed the moonroof on my e46 although I went with the carbon roof on my e92 because it looks awesome, sportier looking, more headroom (I'm 6'4"), and it's unique to the M3...bonus!

No, its the high revving V8 is what makes the E92 special to alot of us.

For the OP's edification: Isn't the moonroof susceptible to fracture if you track the car? I though Kemper's car had a broken moonroof for this reason...

I can assure you that any cracking sunroof under the load of tracking an M3 should be interpreted as an isolated incident. That being said, I went with the moonroof and never looked back!

Mine has moonroof. I don't use it that much, but it's definitely not a dealbreaker either way. My car is black, so the looks factor does not come into play for me.
I do think that alpine white/CF roof looks badass. On a black car it's hardly noticeable. |

I'm leaving towards pulling the trigger, my only other consideration would be ordering a new M, but with my trade in situation and the fact that the dealer said it will be at least 6-8 weeks and probably closer to 12, I'm not sure that is the best route.

The MSRP on the car is 58k, they are selling it to me for 55+TTL. The car is pretty much fully loaded with the exception of Nav and the comp pkg.

Seems like a pretty good deal on a 2010. Kind of surprised they told you more than 8 weeks on an order though, I've seen some people recently getting their's in as little as 3.

Huh? Dedicated? What about headroom? A moonroof setup robs the driver of valuable headroom while wearing a helmet. You may have to sacrifice that perfectly comfortable/optimum driving position. Even if it's not a dedicated track car, that would suck. Even for autox. I had to do it on my E46 (second hand... couldn't find one without a moonroof) and it was a pain.

If you're not going to track the car, why do you need a CF roof? Unless you want it for aesthetics.
