Turner Championship Edition Trophy Big Brake Kit

Found this on TMS - http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-21...ed-rotors.aspx

Anybody know the details about this versus the StopTech Trophy Sport?
It seems to be the same but a lot cheaper with the sale price.

I have this kit, it's identical in every way to the regular trophy kit, aside from the logo on the calipers.

The whole Turner edition is BS, as I bought this from a different distributor back in January.

See my thread where I have pics

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1084195

The logo was actually discussed in there, and the conclusion we came to was it was an old logo hence the reason I got such a great deal. However I did not fully buy this as all my packaging on the kit has dates from 2014 so it couldn't be that old.

Oh well nothing to get hung up about, just marketing BS!

Buy yourself the kit!

I was told that it is the "Race" version of the Trophy kit, not the "Sport" version.

That can only mean no boots and race hardware.

Correct. No boots, SS pistons, and fully floating rotors.

Pistons are good. Full float rotors are good for track. You have to okay with the low speed clicking the rotors make. No boots kind of depends where you live. I would do it in Houston. I would do it for a dedicated track car. If you drive with salt and sand and snow, I'd want the boots.

I called Turner today regarding this kit.

The phone said:
-It is nearly identical to the Trophy Sport.
-Only the logo is different.
-Then he said it has seals added back on.

Since the Trophy Sport already has seals (boots), it leads me on to think it is the Trophy Race with Seals.

Weird. I pointedly asked Turner what these were and was told they were the "Race" version.

Sport: Aluminum pistons, silicone dust seals, anti-rattle clips on the rotors.

Race: SS pistons, no dust seals, fully floating rotors.

I was told that they can add the silicone dust boots to them if I wanted. Mostly I am interested in the SS pistons and the fully floating rotors (to the extent the noise is tolerable).

SS pistons are good in my book b/c they don't transfer as much heat into the fluid as aluminum pistons. But some say they don't cool down as fast, either.

I'd buy it. Easy to add boots if you want before you install them.

Indeed, sir. It's a good kit and I'm torn because they look great on the car, but the slightly increased wheel clearance and easier pad changes were the deciding factor.

this is so affordable, even cheaper than the regular st kit
such a bargain for an insignificant logo difference

I have to ask but how much are the stock brakes with proper track pads an issue for tracks days? Seems as though the cost to benefit analysis doesn't pan out.

Yeah, the price really is too good to pass up, IMO. The logo is a nonissue for me as I intended to remove the paint with acetone no matter what, a la what "Slicer" did to his Trophy brakes, which I think looks awesome:

With pads and fluid (I like Castrol SRF), the stock brakes are doable. In my case, I did not want to make any compromises with the braking system and did not want to beat the snot out of my stock setup.

Just ordered a set. what a deal, and cant wait to get some good braking for once!

for the record - if you need race pads, you can use Pagid RS-19s. The part number is U-1204 for both front and rear.

That actually looks very nice after the paint is removed. Please keep us posted how that paint removal go. I wish more company offer their caliper without any painted label/logo like that. Looks a lot more 'business' like. Are these confirmed to have SS piston? Are you getting the seals too or not? Thanks in advance.

That is what I was told when I called and e-mailed: SS pistons, fully-floating rotors, and no dust seals.

However, they did say the seals could be added if I wanted. I'm still debating that.

Also, it's my understanding that the anti-rattle clips (which I believe reduce the noise from the rotor at the expense of full floatation) can be added later if I want to. I am going to wait and see how bad the noise is with the hope/expectation that it will be livable. I hate drone or high-pitched whine, but don't mind clunks, thumps, creaks, or clicks nearly as much.

From a street-manners perspective, I don't see any downsides for the SS pistons. But they are marginally heavier than aluminum ones, for whatever that's worth. Perhaps when I do a rebuild someday I'll throw in some aluminum pistons with titanium tips for the best of both worlds (lower fluid temps but light pistons).
