Black shadowline Trim Installed now water leaks in
Just had my Black Shadowline Trim intalled on the Dealership where i bought my 1 Week old M3 e93 2013:
Now water leaks in when there is heavy rain or when i wash my car with a pressure washer. The car was in the dealership for almost 2 weeks. Any advice on how i should approach this to the dealer ? This should be under warranty as it was done with original BMW parts and BMW dealership. got the car back 2 days ago. Also found scratches on the roof of this new car. Thx

Cautiously and from behind like a lion waits for a gazelle in the tall grass. When the SA goes to take a drink of his coffee, you spring into action and pounce, demanding things like free M keychains and BMW detailing products.
Okay, but seriously, just tell them the problem and I'm sure they'll fix the trim so it seal properly. Also, mention the scratches and they'll buff them for you. Standard. Good luck and hope the leak gets resolved. I'm sure it will.

Can you elaborate how you got this trim for the e93? On the bmwusa website, I can only see it available for the e90/e92 models.
Very interested. Thanks. |

So from an 570Euro Option ($700) as an upgrade i had to go the loong distance and order the parts itself in germany for 3x the $$$ around $2100. Labor to install is of course extra. Some dealerships charge ~$2000 for it. As you can see thanks to BMWUSA we are taken to the cleaners if you want to do it right. (Warranty and such) I will admit the OEM Shadowline Trim looks really nice ( i think much better then wrapped or painted) but the cost is no where in comparison. At this point i have a 3 week old M3 and already trouble because of sloppy work from a BMW Dealership. Go figure. Going to call BMW in germany tomorrow and ask if the OEM Shadowline trims are supposed to look installed exactly like the original trims after a proper installation. I will post some pictures in a moment...

Since it is dealer install you should have them try to fix the problem. Just talk to your SA and see what they can do. Just keep us post when it is fix. Also I want to see how the black shadowline trims look like. Hope to see the pics soon.

Here you go ...
Some closeups (including the sloppy work) Here is a closeup... that shows how nice it looks. (If only...) Here are the issues after the install... I may have let some of them go if the car would be a few months / years old but 1 week old no way ... Ofcourse i checked on an original Trim to compare if what i am seeing is out of the ordinary.

It looks like they didn't even put any effort into that job. The sealing is not even line up and the trims are all out of place. No wonder you said it was leaking and that scratch is deep. I would have the SA repair all the damages they have done. Good luck.

Good luck with the fix!
I agree on swapping the chrome trim; I had mine matte black wrapped, big improvement over the chrome look.

Good luck dude. I always cringe when I took my car to dealer when I first got it. My car came with a bump on the hood. Saw during delivery. It took them a week to fix it and it came back with scratch in other area. Not too mention swirls all over my brand new car.
My lesson next time buying a nice car like M3, check it very carefully, any issues at all let them fix it before deliver. Or else just walk. The dealer has been more of a pain in the ass that anything. Thank god VOB BMW is out of bussiness. They sold to Rockville BMW. I don't go back there anymore.

You should make sure that some qualified staff repair the car, otherwise it may get worse than the crappy situation you have now.
