test pipe installed

I got my primary cat-less pipe installed yesterday, the rest of the exhaust is oem, the secondary cats were untouch.

sound: just a little louder, only noticeable with windows down. tone is brighter at high rpm. I was really hoping it would be a louder.

power: the car feels more responsive, but I am not sure the car is pulling any harder.

smell: Couldn't smell anything.

I will install the Evolve tune in the next few days, when the ecu gather enough data. hopefully it will unleash some power.

That' Great! I was really disappointed last night, I have new hope now. I think the secondary cats are same or even less restrictive than HFC, because it is supposed to be 200cel and it is so small. Do you get smell? Notice any low rpm torque drop?

Hi.

Is there any chance you can make a recording of what your car sounds like now?

Where did you get the test pipes from? Brand? Or homemade?

it was made by a local exhaust guy in Hong Kong, he found me a pair of oem flanges. USD$800 total. here are some photos.

I finally installed the Evolve tune file, it's awesome!
I immediately noticed the different exhaust tone. There's a new layer of high frequency metallic sound that wasn't there before. It comes when I WOT above 3500rpm and it sound so aggressive. I don't understand how a tune can change the tone of the exhaust so much.

For NA engine the power gain is totally above my expectation. You know that feeling when a turbo car pins you down on the seat? I never felt that in my M3 before, but it is doing it in 1st and 2nd now, at around 3600 rpm and up. In terms of smell, I didn't smell anything from just the primary cat delete before. I can smell it sometimes now but it is not so bad.

I thought the tune was meant to take care of the CEL too. Isn't that the whole idea of the tune?

It is. I guess some cars, the CEL doesn't come on right away after the swap. But it'll come on eventually.

Keep in mind some have a harder time feeling 20 hp difference with cat delete. I figure you spent 800 already and don't want to dump that and get an xpipe with HFC but it may be good for a few more as even though the secondaries are 200 cell, they are ceramic and less flowing than a metallic HFC 200 cell. Although probably not much.

Only other thing I would say is make sure there is no exhaust leak or anything around the header flanges, make sure your air filter is not too dirty so you make sure there is no air flow issue. Make sure your spark plugs have been changed recently. With all that you should definetely feel a good difference

do you have the regular Evolve Tune? or a different one specifically for the test pipes?

I notice little or no smell with my turner pipes. Definitely noticed a power difference with a bpm tune, feels much more responsive and really screams when you want it to.

Drop in filter and fresh spark plugs. Test pipes and a tune and Bob is your uncle
